Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Wood, McKennie, and more

Bobby Wood’s start with Hannover appeared to be frustrating with the forward lacking both goals and consistent starts. The U.S. Men’s National Team striker ended both on Saturday, scoring his first brace for the club in a 3-1 win over Stuttgart.

Wood headed in a pair of first-half goals which helped Hannover to their first league victory of the season. The 25-year-old found the back of the net in the 30th and 45th minutes respectively which handed Hannover a two-goal lead going into halftime. The hosts would eventually hang on for their first three points in Bundesliga play. Now as Wood joins the USMNT for a pair of friendlies, he should be full of confidence after his play on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Weston McKennie continued his impressive run of form with another goal for Schalke. Despite the goal, McKennie had to leave the match with an apparent injury. Geoff Cameron also found the back of the net for QPR, helping them to a home draw.

Emerson Hyndman registered his first goal for Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian, while Romain Gall moved to 11 goals this season in the Allsvenskan. Andrija Novakovich, Omar Gonzalez, and Kenny Saief all stood out in individual performances for their respective clubs as well.

  1. Soooo.. Bobby Wood has more goals than Pulisic.
Even I didn’t see that one coming.
By when should we expect his imminent RealMadridBarcelonaBayernChelseaLiverpool 200 million transfer?

    Reply
    • Probably right around the same time as Chucky’s much talked about transfer to Barcelona… Oh yeah, that hasn’t happened

  2. I would have thought that Steve Cherundolo getting fired would have made a head line today. It was just the manager, him and an one other assistant

  3. Do you think Cameron could help this team out as a depth option? During CONCACAF qualifying, probably not on the 2022 roster, but help this young team in the beginning of the cycle?

    Reply
    • Not while Sarachan is there, Cameron trashed Arena in the press. I don’t see him lasting to 2022 as you said. Could help especially if there are injuries at his position but he’s not great tactically really relies on athleticism and physicality so I’m not sure of his value to guide young players. If McKennie continues as a AM and if Adams say moves to RM for RB Leipzig and if Cameron stays healthy there could be space but that’s a lot of ifs.

  4. Haji Wright scored his third goal in four matches (along with 1 Assist) for Schalke II. It should be remembered that Schalke II plays in the 5th division, not the Regionalliga after being relegated in 2017.
