Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Wooten, Gooch, and more

Andrew Wooten’s role with Sandhausen has increased over the last few weeks, despite the striker struggling to find the back of the net. Saturday saw Wooten answer the call on numerous occasions as Sandhausen drew Paderborn 3-3 away from home.

Wooten led the way with his first brace since Nov. 2016 while also adding an assist on the team’s opening goal. His first goal came in the 27th minute, doubling Sandhausen’s lead to 2-0 at the time. Despite a trio of goals by Paderborn in a 45 minute span, Wooten came up with the goods in the 83rd minute which stamped the final score at 3-3.

The team is still in the bottom-three in the 2. Bundesliga but hopefully Saturday’s performance by Wooten will help spark the team into more victories as the season goes on.

Elsewhere, Lynden Gooch registered an assist as Sunderland continued their strong season in England’s third tier. Geoff Cameron had the game winning assist for QPR while Kenny Saief came off the bench and assisted in Anderlecht’s defeat at Eupen.

DeAndre Yedlin and Tim Ream each started for their respective Premier League clubs, while Antonee Robinson returned to Wigan’s starting XI. Ventura Alvarado and Omar Gonzalez went head to head in Liga MX play. Weston McKenie started for Schalke, despite his side’s failure to earn more than a point.

  1. Always rooting for our guys but this weekend was a big nothing burger. Our headline was a 2 Bundesliga striker who never is on the team and an England third division player. Wooo

  2. My guess is that Pulisic is being eased back in after repeat calf injuries. He and Sancho can play at the same time… Prior to the injuries, he was playing better than Sancho…

  3. It was just a matter of time before Sancho replaced Pulisic. One has been dead weight all season and the other can’t stop scoring. Sancho then went and proved his coach right by scoring two goals.

  4. I’m curious as to why, on a soccer website, there is no article on the owner of a premier league team dying in a helicopter crash at the stadium. That seems like front page news to me.

      • Pulisic started the midweek Champions League game, so I think this answer is more certain than it should be unless you have a quote from the manager. There is more to the game than scoring goals and Dortmund has been playing lights out with Pulisic in the line up, so I’m not writing him off just yet. One of the goals Sancho scored yesterday was a tap in on the goal line from a play entirely created by Reus.

  5. Konrad went 90 for Barca Juvenil A (U19) in a 2-1 loss to Real Zaragoza. And as a shoutout to Mysterious, CJ Dos Santos was in goal for a 6-4 victory for Benfica U19s.
