Injuries force Pulisic, Adams out of USMNT October friendlies

Two of the most important players of the U.S. Men’s National Team core won’t be part of the squad for the October friendlies against Colombia and Peru.

Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams have been forced to withdraw from the upcoming USMNT camp due to injuries. Pulisic recently suffered a torn calf muscle, while Adams is dealing with back spasms. Both players recently missed important matches for their respective club teams.

Pulisic has played in just one USMNT match in the past year, which was the May friendly against Bolivia.

Adams has been a vital piece of the USMNT midfield over the last year, playing in every match in 2018 as interim manager Dave Sarachan integrates the younger members of the talent pool into the squad.

Philadelphia Union midfielder Fafa Picault was added to the 23-man roster for the upcoming friendlies.

Picault has eight goals and four assists in 26 games for the Union this season.

  1. Anybody see George Bello from Atlanta United?

Kid is just 16 and he’s already getting starts with ATL’s first team. He scored last night against the Revs. Kid can fly and he can flat-out play.

He’s Nigerian-born, but moved to the USA when he was just a year old and has featured for the USA’s development teams for awhile now.

DEFINITELY think this kid is sticking his hand WAY UP to be on that plane for Qatar.

  2. Another injury to fret about: … the midfielder would leave in the 79th minute with an injury that has yet to be determined. McKennie is next to join the USMNT for their pair of upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Peru, but his fitness could be in jeopardy due to his latest knock.

Players that should have AT LEAST been in camp (with Pulisic INJURED❌, Adams INJURED❌, and Bradley dropped from the line-up❌) and the Older players I’m ok with playing with the young Group

Alfredo Morales – Fortuna Düsseldorf (CENTRAL MIDFIELDER, 28) – Starts in the Bundesliga, and has been playing and training at a HIGHER LEVEL than MLS (let alone players having a garage season or moving to defense in MLS) enough said ✔

Fafà Picault – Philadelphia Union (WINGER, 27) – I’m okay with Fafà Picault. He brings something we do not have much on the team. SPEED. ✔

Darlington Nagbe – Atlanta United (MIDFIELDER, 28) – He is good enough to secure his spot in midfield for Tata, brings something we do not have much on the team. Dribbling Skill✔

Geoff Cameron – QPR (DEFENDER, MIDFIELDER, 33) – Better mentor/Advisor for the young generation to think and make the right choices to reach and STAY PLAYING at a highest level than Michael Bradley✔

Players that should be groomed and a major part of our young camps
Chris Durkin – DC United (MIDFIELDER, 18)
Brooks Lennon – RSL (RB, 21) – TRY HIM AT RIGHT MIDFIELD!!! Liverpool academy attacker turned Real Salt Lake right back has secured his spot as a starter in MLS (TRY HIM AT RM!!!!!)
Andrew Carleton – Atlanta United (WINGER, 18)

    • We have camps for Durkin and Carleton its called the US U20 team, since neither are playing regularly in MLS that seems like the right spot for them. I know Durkin was playing regularly earlier, but Canouse is far better. James Sands has played more the last month than Durkin.

I expected to see Nagbe this time, I wonder if he asked out since he has just recently returned to full fitness.

    • I think Cameron at 33 y-o is done for the USMNT. We have better choices at CB and defensive midfield. As a right FB, Yedlin is now better. Cameron’s only role for this team is likely as a sub in case of multiple injuries or as a utility player to cover any last minute problems with the defense.

His whining about Arena while perhaps correct was a player whining about a coach and that is never looked upon favorably by coaches.

    • I like Lennon’s competitiveness, but I think he needs to find another attacking tactic than simply burning it up the wing. If he develops a solid plan B in the attack, I think he has promise.
Carlton will likely get a chance later.

  4. Disappointed that we still haven’t had a chance to see what is arguably the core of our midfield for 2022 play together. We’ve yet to see Pulisic, Saief, McKennie, Adams, Green, Weah all attend a camp at the same time. These 6 are what the rest of the midfield pool is going to be compared against.
At least 3 (likely 4) of our starting midfielders for next summers Gold Cup will come form these 6 players.

  5. @**$@*!!*%^!!! Injuries happen. The 3 guys I would have expected to start as the core of the team are Altidore, Pulisic and Adams.

This should make those people happy who seem to have seeing new faces and making changes for change sake happy.

I do not think missing any of these 3 will make the team better!

    • Curious at to why you think Gall is more deserving? Because Gall plays in Europe? I think they are equally deserving. Fafa has been brilliant for Philly and Gall is coming into his own at Malmo. Gall still isn’t a starter but is playing a big role off the bench. On short notice, Fafa is in close proximity instead of bringing Gall across the pond where he may not get minutes with USMNT. Let him work his way into the starting XI with Malmo and then a November calllup makes a little more sense.
