  1. These players are pretty much just a year out of HS or not even out of HS yet.

Of those in MLS, only MacKenzie has played in more than a few MLS games.

I think, that the foreign based players are all pretty much in much lower division or youth leagues. despite being with some big clubs. Only CJ Dos Santos seems to playing regularly even for those teams..

USL experience or the equivalent seems to be the norm, as you might expect for this age group.

    • Brady Scott starts regularly for Koln II. Really no player that is a regular in a top Euro league will play in these qualifiers and most won’t play in the U20 WC either if they play for first teams.

  2. I posted a comment that has disappeared. I asked why we don’t have some of our top players like Sargent, Weah and Farrell included. Yes, I know that they might not be released, but was the attempt made? And how about Farrel who hasn’t figured much for Atlanta? While it seems like a weak group, we have been bit in the behind before by underestimating opponents in CONCACAF.

    • Guys with full national teams rarely are included in these tournaments, but I’m sure calls were made. Much like the last U20 WC if a club says no then its no. Farrell? Do you mean Carleton, I don’t think Atlanta has a Farrell? Carleton started last week and Almiron has been fighting injury so they likely would say no at least until the window.

Tab can swap six players for Round 2 so you may see some others since it will be in the window and some MLS teams will be eliminated.

      • To add on when in the past can and if the U.S. Qualify with a B team is a bad thing it just shows the depth they have in the youth set ups now. When was the last time the U.S. had some many players not available, this is a good thing for the future

    • Probably good enough, but missing almost the full first team. Very thin at CB since McKenzie is unlikely at the start. Doubtful any of the players with USMNT experience will play with the exception of Amon. Weah is possible since he is just playing with PSG II, but Sargent seems on the cusp of playing for Bremen.

      • Your sarcasm gives me gas. He could peak fast, as well as who do we have as a replacement to Steffan who is quality? Not Horvath who lets shots through his legs. Everyone was crowning Hamid as USA future number 1after Guzman and Howard aged out and that did not happened. You do realize what opinions are right? You seem to come hard at peeps who don’t have same opinion as you.

      • I’m just trying to keep people honest. Because in two weeks when call ups come again someone is going to say “why isn’t Dos Santos being called up he plays for Benfica?” No, he doesn’t he plays for their U19 team. When he’s starting for Benfica then you can make statements like Steffan better watch out without expecting push back. I’ve been promoting Konrad Jr this week but I’m not making statements like Pulisic better watch out.

    • You’re not missing it, our 11/1 opponent is not in the article.

The article also gets our 11/7 opponent wrong and doesn’t mention the fifth group game on 11/9.

      11/1: Puerto Rico
      11/3: USVI
      11/5: T&T
11/7: St. Vincent and the Grenadines
      11/9: Suriname
