Boy, the uncritical support for Berhalter makes them sound like shills for USSF. The issue, in my mind, was not if he is good enough, but was the the best available. I can’t believe that he was. At least Ives brought uyp the process and how screwed up that was. The problem there is that it shows just how insular the USSF is and I don’t think they are capable of moving our program into the top tier when you have the kind of thinking that results in interviewing only a couple of candidates and then picking someone like Berhalter who could have been taken almost a year earlier without the drama.

how can intelligent people believe that what is needed in the usmnt is for us to hire the “best available” coach despite the fact that he maybe A) doesn’t speak english B) doesn’t understand usa soccer culture C) doesn’t feel in his heart the way you and i about our usa teams (it’s just a paycheck to him. just a f*%#ing paycheck!) and D) there is zero connection between him and us. we are just strangers to him and he is just a stranger to us.

berhalter WAS the “best available” candidate. because the job is for usa coach not coach of some national team in europe.

i love you people dearly. and i really do respect (and expect!) different opinions. but this one? i just don’t “get”.
Why do you think that the US can’t get better than Berhalter? The Galaxy just announced the hiring of Schelotto who won a title at Columbus, was an MLS MVP, and, as a coach, just won his second league title in the very competitive Argentine premier league. Was he ever asked? I’m sure that he would tick all the boxes of speaking English, knowing MLS and US players, plus he has a better coaching record than Berhalter. Your argument doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
