U.S. Men’s National Team legend DaMarcus Beasley scored on a hard-hit shot from outside the box to hand the Houston Dynamo a 1-0 victory in their Concacaf Champions League round-of-16 matchup with Guatemalan side Guastatoya.
Beasley sent the screaming shot into the bottom-right corner of the net to secure a key away goal for Wilmer Cabrera’s side in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Tuesday night.

The 84th-minute strike from the 36-year-old left back came near the end of a solid performance from the Dynamo, who limited the chances on goal from the home side.
The ball got to Beasley’s right foot after Romell Quioto’s corner was deflected out of the box by Guastatoya.
Beasley’s goal came in his first appearance in a Concacaf club game since 2002, when he was a member of the Chicago Fire.
Goals have been hard to come by for Beasley in recent years, as he’s only scored three times in MLS for the Dynamo since joining the club in 2014.
Before Beasley’s game-winning strike, the Dynamo created a few chances through Juan David Cabezas and Mauro Manotas.
The Dynamo return home to BBVA Compass Stadium in a week’s time to try and finish off their Guatemalan opponent and move on to the CCL quarterfinals.

One of the USMNT veterans (old squad) that is consistent, takes good care of himself, knows what it means to be a true professional and should be mentoring our young generation of players.
“Stunning Strike”? That’s overstating it just a bit. It was a nicely executed shot, but it wasn’t upper 90. Unless the title of the article is referring to a 36 year old scoring a goal. Then cool, no argument. Good on Beaz for still being able to contribute at this stage in his lengthy career.
Beasley is the type of vet you call to teach youngster things about soccer no one else can. I much rather see him called up than Bradley or Jozy. Beasley definitely has more to offer and real tips on how to be a professional.

It is remarkable that a player, whose early career was built upon his speed and quickness, has managed to grow and even thrive as he got older. Sure, he is not the flashy guy he once was, but he is still a very good player.
It is, but there’s also a reason why PSV not only signed him but relied on him early on in his career. The same reason why he’s still doing what he’s doing. Too often we single out players for being physically gifted, or something like that. What made Demarcus Beasley is between the ears. Especially as an American. Simple as that. You have to have it between the ears in for the application of those gifts to take place. Anyone can be fast and quick, or however you want to say physically gifted, but Beasley possesses superior quality where it matters most: between the ears. That’s the key to his longevity and that’s been the key for him all along.
