Pulisic scores, but can’t stop Dortmund’s DFB Pokal exit

Christian Pulisic had a strong outing for Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to keep Dortmund from being eliminated from the DFB Pokal.

Pulisic scored the second goal in Dortmund’s 4-2 shootout defeat at Signal Iduna Park. The 20-year-old showed great skill in the 105th minute to give Dortmund a 2-1 lead that didn’t last very long.

After a great solo run, Pulisic worked a give-and go with Paco Alcacer and nutmegged Jiri Pavlenka for his fourth goal in all competitions this season, and first since October 31st of 2018.

Despite a quick equalizer from Claudio Pizarro, Dortmund went back in front through Achraf Hakimi’s finish.

Bremen fought back a third time and eventually knocked out Dortmund in the penalty shootout.

Josh Sargent was not on the bench for Bremen after featuring several times this season in Bundesliga play.

Dortmund returns to Bundesliga action on Saturday against Hoffenheim.

  1. Shame on the loss, but Pulisic certainly played his part…He was dribbling at guys, trying to get crosses in, etc….Felt like it’s been a while since he was playing that well…Hopefully the minutes will keep coming

  2. Beautiful goal. Call it hyperbole but Messi-esque. Even if the goal meant nothing in the end, the kid really needed this. since his future is set, I think we are going to see him play fearless again. This fall, he wasnt playing fearless. That’s when he is at his best and goals like today happen. Really want to see him have a significant part in winning the bundasliga.
    We’ll see,

  3. Nice to see him start again but going 120 mins is tough especially if Sancho’s illness and reus injury keep them both out this weekend. Then having Champions league mid week next week. He might be playing a lot of mins in a short window
