Pulisic suffered muscular injury in Tottenham defeat

Christian Pulisic is expected to miss a pair of matches for Borussia Dortmund after suffering an injury last week.

The 20-year-old U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder suffered a muscular injury in Dortmund’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League. Pulisic got the start for Lucien Favre’s side but was unable to help the Bundesliga leaders avoid a lopsided first leg loss in London.

Pulisic is doubtful for Dortmund’s league match against Nuremberg on Monday and is also a doubt for next weekend’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

It is unsure whether Pulisic will be fit in time Dortmund hosts Tottenham at Signal Iduna Park on March 5th.

Pulisic has scored four goals and registered three assists in 22 appearances across three competitions this season. He has found the back of the net once in Champions League play this season.

  1. I wonder if he will be ready for the USMNT March friendlies. It would be nice to finally see a full roster with a complete A team for a change, but without CP22 it won’t be the same.

  2. Will this mean that he misses the March friendlies, too? Even if he recovers in time, will he have match fitness then? Since the T&T loss he has played so little for the national team. It makes it hard to game plan when his availability and place (as in position) in the squad are in question.

  3. Man….Christian can’t seem to get into a consistent run of games. I am still on the fence about his move to Chelsea. He needs to be somewhere that provides him consistent playing time.

    • Pulisic’s lack of playing time is related to his move to Chelsea. The move had been in the works for a while, and BvB didn’t want to 1) invest playing time to someone who was on their way out & 2) didn’t want to risk Pulisic getting a significant injury which would void the sale.

This isn’t like Chelsea’s purchase of Miazga where they paid a couple Million and can recoup most of that on a loan deal. Chelsea paid 60+ Million for Pulisic, so while Chelsea is taking a step up, and isn’t going to be easy to get into the starting XI, he will get a real chance.

      • Absolutely agree with you. Im a total conspiracy theorist and think Chelsea had a minutes cap on him in the deal. Convenient he pops up with a vague injury after going 210 mins in a week (cup and CL games). Its not his form keeping him from starting. And resting him in the next 2 bundasliga games would bring on questions. A vague injury gets dortmund by.

      • Nope, Favre didn’t seem to rate Pulisic even from the beginning of his tenure; and in the wake of Pulisic’s early-season injury, Sancho proved a much more dominant player. If Pulisic is worth 60 million, Sancho is worth 90. I think any unbiased, non-American spectator can see that there is a gulf between Sancho’s skill and Pulisic’s at the moment. Why would Dortmund offload one of its prized players? Easy: the team has better players already.

      • Some of what is being said sounds good on paper but doesn’t go with what I have seen watching Dortmund all season. I decided when the season started to not watch EPL like usual but instead to get an immersion in B.1 watching Dortmund’s season of games. I thin Favre probably agrees with y’all. I also think the team looked best coming out of the gate — when they were starting Pulisic and giving him a lot of minutes — and they have tripped over their own shoelaces the last few weeks, 2 come from ahead draws, 1 big UEFACL loss. Primarily a defensive failure — reverting to last season I am told — but they also no longer look like a free flowing attacking machine, while they underuse Pulisic. So I buy they don’t rate him and are letting him go accordingly, but I also am not sure they are in touch anymore with what makes the team hum, so I don’t know if I would defer to their assessment. Lot more direct and sloppy and cross happy a team lately.

    • Considering how he lost his starting spot to an 18 year old kid with no first team experience you are right to be concerned.
Hopefully he can find a team willing to take him on loan and give him playing time.

      • I imagine Lil’ Bobby has a notification set up on his mom’s desktop computer to let him know when a Pulisic article has been posted anywhere on the interwebs so he can try to craft some dig that he thinks will land. Not even an injury report gets by Lil Bobby. He will not rest until Jona Gonzalez and the little fella Lainez sign with Barca, and Pulisic is handing them orange slices…
