Report: Kenny Saief considering move to MLS

Another U.S. Men’s National Team playmaker could be on his way to Major League Soccer.

According to Goal, Kenny Saief is “lining up a move” to an unnamed MLS club. The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled for consistent playing time with Belgian outfit Anderlecht and currently is not on the MLS Allocation list.

Saief has made 34 appearances for Anderlecht in his time there, scoring one goal and registering four assists. He has not started a league match in four months however and reports out of Belgium also have confirmed the midfielder’s possible move away.

Saief has also amassed 110 appearances with Belgian outfit Gent during 2014-18,  scoring 15 goals and adding nine assists while winning one league title.

After making the switch to the USMNT from Israel, Saief has won four caps after making his debut in 2017.

Anderlecht are currently sixth in the Belgian Pro League and next face Lokeren on Sunday in domestic play.

  1. Why do the writers on this site refer to every club as “*Insert Country* Outfit”? It’s not a bad thing to refer to them as, but that’s literally the only way they do it now. It’s ok to call them a club or a side, and in all honestly the redundancy of the word outfit makes me annoyed by it.

Maybe as a former journalist it’s just a pet peeve of mine.

  2. Not sure what happened to him… he looked like a rising star in Belgium just a couple years ago, but I guess injuries and other things derailed him. MLS would be an interesting move to evaluate him and compare to other potential NATs guys.

    • The change in manager along with his extended recovery from surgery/infection derailed his promising start in Belgium. While he was recovering the manager found someone else, and that player(s) have performed well leaving Saief on the outside looking in.
He also seems to be injury prone. It almost seems as if every time he sets foot on the field he picks up some kind of knock and needs a week or 2 to get back. It’s hard to get any traction with a club or coach if you can’t stay healthy.
