Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Adams, Carter-Vickers, and more

Tyler Adams was a bright spot in the recent U.S. Men’s National Team camp, only appearing once in a 1-0 win against Ecuador. The 20-year-old played at right back in that match before returning to RB Leipzig, which is making a push for a European qualification spot.

The Bundesliga side is on a 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions, which has RB Leipzig sitting third in the league table. This weekend, Adams will hope to help shut down Hertha Berlin, which is currently in 10th. Adams has made eight league appearances under Ralf Rangnick this campaign and has added versatility and a good work rate to the squad.

Elsewhere, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Swansea City return to league action against Nottingham Forest. Geoff Cameron and QPR take on Bolton Wanderers while Duane Holmes and Derby County entertain Rotherham United.

Andrija Novakovich and Fortuna Sittard face Willem II hoping to continue drifting away from the relegation zone. John Brooks and Wolfsburg will take on Borussia Dortmund, Weston McKennie is out for Schalke, and Tim Ream and Fulham face a top attack in Manchester City.

  1. I sincerely hope Gregg Berhalter watches today’s Derby County match. We have a creative midfield option in Duane Holmes just waiting for a shot with the national team. Am I sure he’d walk right into the first team? Not entirely. Do I think he could be the missing piece to allow Pulisic, McKennie, and Adams to play to their strengths in Berhalter’s system? I think he’s too intriguing a prospect to ignore.

  2. So after today do you switch Adams to the Tradley position, move McKennie to the Hybrid position and put Holmes next to Pulisic?

Maybe the better question is, we see that Adams can make long passes to create opportunities, but do we want that to be his only contribution to the offense?

  3. Danny Williams played the final 10 minutes for Huddersfield. Johannsson dressed for the first team for the first time in 11 months but did not play after going 60 minutes for WB II last weekend.

  4. a couple of SPL notes:
Polster is healthy and available for selection in the Old Firm matchup.
Hibs announced this morning that Jonathan Spector is in the squad for Friday night.

  5. ArJo played for Bremen’s reserves last week and is available for selection this weekend.
also: yesterday Jan Siewert said Danny Williams is fit and available for selection this weekend, too.

  6. Can’t wait to see Adams on the right side of midfield, breaking up attacks, shuttling the ball between the lines, making runs into the box. You know exactly what he did against Ecuador.
