Less than a year after leaving the New York Red Bulls to pursue coaching opportunities in Europe, Jesse Marsch has landed a managerial job.
On Monday, Marsch was named the head coach of Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg for the 2019-20 season.

Since he departed Major League Soccer in July, Marsch has been working as an assistant with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, where he was joined by Tyler Adams in January.
Marsch could lead Salzburg into the UEFA Champions League since the club is currently in line to win the Austrian Bundesliga and earn a spot in the UCL playoff round.
In his time as a head coach in MLS, Marsch won the Supporters’ Shield and Coach of the Year in 2015 with the New York Red Bulls.
This is huge. While many of us were hoping that Bob Bradley would make his mark in European football, Marsch will likely be coaching in the Champions league next year. He does well, and maybe he moves up to RB Leipzig in the future.

I’m sure supporters (in Austria and Germany) hate the corporate branding, etc. of their teams but the setup is great. And RBNY supporters hate losing their best, acting like a feeder team for euro. But it’s great incentive for young talented players to come to RBNY. as a spring board to europe – whether to be a super start like Adams and go straight to a top league or have Austria as a further stepping stone.
Would rather MLS be more on the front side of player careers than the back side!
Think the league is doing a good job balancing the two. Better than ever, at least.
