Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Hyndman, Amon, and more

After a long wait on the sidelines, Emerson Hyndman made his first Premier League appearance for AFC Bournemouth. The 23-year-old came off the bench last weekend in a 3-3 draw against Southampton, with Hyndman playing the final 30+ minutes.

With the Cherries already guaranteed another season in England’s top-flight, Hyndman could feature this Saturday at Vitality Stadium against Tottenham. Hyndman has tried to fight for a place in Eddie Howe’s side but has had to settle for playing time with the U-23’s.

Following a home date against Tottenham, Bournemouth face Crystal Palace on the final matchday of the season which Hyndman will hope to be a part of.

Elsewhere, Jonathan Amon is coming off a goalscoring performance last weekend and will look to do the same against Esbjerg on Monday. Andrew Wooten and Sandhausen aim to continue moving away from the relegation zone, while Julian Green and Greuther Furth are also in action. Duane Holmes has missed time for Derby County but is contention to feature in the Rams home match against West Bromwich Albion.

  1. EMO will rise. You all watch. Glad he is getting minutes. Think 4 years from now if he is still going a midfield with EMO, Pulisic, Weah, Mckennie, and Adams. We will be loaded. So loaded we can Bring it to ??.

    • Hyndman was a talented youth but his game hasn’t gotten any better in 4 years. The players you named in the midfield with him are all 3 to 4 years younger have blown past him in skill level and all except maybe Weah have better club situations. It’s time to get off the hype train.

    • People jumped on the train when he got some starts because Fulham had some injuries. Then he went a long stretch without matches, everyone made excuses because he wouldn’t sign a new contract he was being black listed. That seems to have been a false narrative. His four months with Rangers was great but the Scottish League is currently ranked 20th in Europe behind Cyprus and Serbia. Injury halted any progress. A year with only 164 minutes last year and then another a Scotland. He was unable to emulate his success at Rangers putting up worse numbers than Weah or Ariyibi. Then in January recalled to AFCB and sits for four months before playing 30 minutes. This week team up 2 men and needing a goal and he is left on the bench.

      • You missed my point and went on a rant with no points! He will be 27 and in his prime in 3-4 years. I am just looking in the future what a EPL EMO with 4 years of consistent epl exp and minutes would look like with a talented midfield of other USA players. If he is going strong getting miunutes in form. Notice I said,”if he is going strong”. Not hyping him I am imagining a midfield that can actiaully hold the ball and not play scared bunker ball like USA teams of the past who play against top 10 countries. I never hype any played their career could turn to a Carlos Bocanegra with a great European career and club resume or Freddie Adu bouncing to team to team and having a decline in form and no consistant minutes or long succesful resume in Europe.

    • I think you missed your own point since you started with “Emo will rise. You all watch.” And then “if he’s still going” by which I guess you meant still getting a grand total of 30 first team minutes a season he’ll be playing for the USMNT.

      Reply
    • When he played for Rangers he was excellent. I think he just needs a chance and has a future with the USMNT. We’ll see.

      Reply
    • Yeah, Emo’s time with Bournemouth has been a strange one. You’d have to think he’s looking to move this off season to seek first team football, because otherwise i just don’t see the faith had in him by Eddie Howe to play him consistently next season.

      • The 30 minutes he played last week and any additional minutes over the next two matches will say a lot about where he fits next year.
Hyndman is barely keeping his head above water since he first showed well in the UK. When you bounce club to club it is hard to say you didn’t get a chance?

    • In the four months with Rangers Hyndman had 4 goals and 4 assists. In his other 55 pro matches spanning 4 1/2 seasons he has 2 goals and no assists. His pro career outside Scotland 36 matches 1 goal no assists.
