Group A favorites Mexico completed the job on Sunday night, holding off Martinique for a 3-2 win in Charlotte.
Three different players got on the scoresheet for El Tri, with Fernando Navarro scoring the game-winning goal.
Carlos Antuna continued a strong tournament for Mexico, breaking the deadlock after 29 minutes. He drove down the right flank before cutting onto his left and scoring at the near post from 20 yards out.
Kevin Parsemain scored a goal of the tournament nominee to tie things up after halftime, blasting a free kick upper 90 from just outside of the penalty box.

Raul Jimenez retained the lead for Mexico in the 61st-minute, before Navarro slotted home Jimenez’s assist 11 minutes later to make it 3-1.
Martinique pulled a goal back through Jordy Delem’s finish in the 84th-minute but it was too little too late as the score finished 3-2.
Canada 7 – Cuba 0
Canada rolled to second place in group A after a 7-0 thrashing of Cuba.
Jonathan David and Lucas Cavallini each bagged hat tricks while Junior Hoilett also found the back of the net.
David’s opener came three minutes in before Cavallini scored a trio of goals in a 24-minute span to make it 4-0 going into halftime.
Hoilett added a fifth for the Canadians in the 50th-minute ahead of David’s pair of finishes in the 71st and 77th minutes.
Canada will face the winners of Group B in the knockout stage.

Tata or not you just can’t change almost you entire backline, including your goalkeeper (of your B team no less) and not concede goals. Mexico is good BUT NOT THAT GOOD!!! ?
All of those guys have started in at least one match this month prior to last night and all play for top teams in Liga Mx. Everyone has a bad night.
Johnny, I’ve been impressed with some of the Caribbean teams. Cuba has been awful and T&T have fallen off, but Bermuda, Martinique, Curacao, and to a lesser extent Guyana have played well. I don’t think going to 16 had been as bad as feared. Honduras was eliminated in 2 matches.
Granted, if the U.S. and Mexico play the way they are capable of, they should still walk into the semis. Of choose going into it, I wasn’t confident in the U.S. at all.
Just because “you have started in at least one match this month prior to last night” doesn’t mean you are a starter for the competition’s first team (e.g. just like some players in the USMNT VS JAMAICA game / USMNT VENEZUELA game). Lets not kid ourselves, the strongest team was the team against Canada and they just under estimated Martinique ?? and almost paid for it. Hence, you cannot almost change your entire backline and goalkeeper, and not feel the effect….
It is pretty much their A team defense though. Layun is injured but he’s also getting up in age for a fullback. I’m sure the Mexican media and fan base was not as forgiving as you though.

Might be time for Mexico to open up the check book and throw big money to steal Berhalter away from us!
