Report: Lille in talks with PSG for Weah

Timothy Weah could reportedly be on his way out of Paris Saint-Germain.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, PSG are in negotiations with Lille for the sale of Weah. The deal is not close to being done, but the teams are in talks about a permanent transfer for the striker.

PSG want at least €10 million for Weah as well as a significant percentage of any potential next sale, according to the report.

Weah, 19, domestically is coming off a loan spell at Celtic during the second-half of the European season. In 16 appearances across all competitions, Weah scored four goals and won the Scottish Premier League title. He also earned a French Ligue 1 medal after appearing with PSG earlier in the season.

Weah is also coming off a two-goal, two-assist run in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup with the U.S. The U.S. lost to Ecuador in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Poland.

Weah had been linked in the past with Strasbourg and English side Crystal Palace, but nothing ever came to fruition.

With several stars leading the offensive attack at PSG, a move away may be Weah’s best opportunity for first-team minutes in one of Europe’s top leagues.

  1. Not far enough down the food chain. Did anyone notice Lille was second to PSG? Had forwards with 23 and 14 goals. I am sure he is up for a challenge but the likely scenario of this move is back to the bench, though he likely would stay put this time and not be loaned. Try someplace like Nice where they finished in the top half but only scored 30 and their best forward had 6.

    • The answer is no. When you are 16 points back, no one knows or cares.

There are probably better options, but this could be a good one too. Playing for a team playing for something, even it will never be winning it all.

      • 16 points back doesn’t matter as much as you suggest. For someone that got left to the U20s he should be more concerned with playing time than club status. It’s a runner up team with two double digit forwards. It’s re-creating his peripheral status at PSG and Celtic who both had good strikers ahead of him. He needs to go someplace that needs Tim Weah to start. Otherwise it’s just like Celtic, it’s not PSG but it’s not fixing his real issue. The idea is to try and avoid the plight of Zelalem or Hyndman where you’re still being loaned or moving around at 22-23 trying to find playing time.
