Report: Motherwell in talks with Nottingham Forest over Ariyibi

Scottish Premier League side Motherwell FC are now reportedly in talks with Nottingham Forest over Gboly Ariyibi.

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows confirmed on social media that the club are trying to extend Ariyibi’s stay at Fir Park. The 24-year-old winger spent the second-half of this past season with Motherwell, scoring two goals and adding two assists in 17 appearances.

Ariyibi joined Nottingham Forest from Chesterfield for roughly £500,000 in 2017, but has yet to make a single appearance for the English second-tier side. He’s spent time on-loan with MK Dons and Northampton Town, scoring three goals in 34 combined appearances.

Motherwell head coach Stephen Robinson expressed his interest for Ariyibi back in May.

The American-born Ariyibi has featured for the U.S. U-20 and U-23 Men’s National Teams in the past but has yet to earn a call-up to the senior team.

Motherwell finished in eighth place in the SPFL, posting a 15-17-6 record.

  1. Good for him, but calls for him to be on the USMNT are a bit over the top. He has hardly lit up the league scoring goals and can’t seem to get any traction with Nottingham who own him. In the SPFL, Weah scored multiple goals with limited playing time; they both play winger or outside mid.

      • More of this abstracted “better league” crap. Suit him up and let’s see. Roldan has been “so great….”

    • Have to whole heartily, disagree. They don’t play the same position, my friend! Ariyibi is LW/9, similar to J. Morris, and Roldan started as a 6, got move to the 8, which I think is his best position. Arena, Sarachan, & Berhalter, seem to favor him as a 10, or an attacking mid. If Roldan starts in the 10, and CP is playing on LW, during the GC, I can live with it. Manufacturing of goals is a question, among the many. Roldan is one of the few players, NOT, from the 2012,- Caleb Porter, or 2015- Andi Herzog U23 teams,( both teams didn’t qualify for the Olympics), unlike Ariyibi.

      • Roldan didnt make neither of those teams cause he was awful and still is lol. If you play 3 in the middle. Ariybi even though he is a winger can play RM. Bet he would wip crosses in like crazy. Also @ Yevgyini Championship and Scottish SPL is better than MLS. You have MLS players that go to Championship 2nd divison in England and struggle.

      • Roldan is not a 10 or an 8 or whatever Berhalter is pretending. Half our problem right now is an offense that looks like the playmaking is being done by defensive mids with the precision of an 18 wheeler. How about crosses on heads or balls to feet?
