SBI QOTD: Who are you most excited to see make the USMNT’s Gold Cup roster?

New U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter has done well starting to rebuild the USMNT in the near six months he’s been on the job.

But, after Wednesday’s friendly against Jamaica (7 p.m., FS1), he’ll cut down his 29-man training camp roster and submit his final 23-man lineup for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, the USMNT’s first major international tournament under Berhalter.

There are several familiar names projected to be named to the final 23-man roster, like goalkeeper Zach Steffen, defenders Nick Lima, Omar Gonzalez and Tim Ream, midfielders Michael Bradley and Weston McKennie, and forwards Jordan Morris and Gyasi Zardes.

But there are also a few names that are still fresh to the program or returning to the program for the first time in a while.

Forwards Jonathan Amon and Joe Gyau are fairly new to the national team, combining for just three caps, with Djordje Milhailovic earning a pair of caps early on where he scored his first and only international goal.

Tyler Boyd is aiming for his first appearance with the Stars and Stripes after switching over from New Zealand, while Duane Holmes is a name fans have been begging to see included with the senior team.

Meanwhile, Jozy Altidore returns to the USMNT for the first time since 2017, where he played a crucial role in the American’s Gold Cup run, scoring in both the semifinal against Costa Rica and in the final win over Jamaica.

So who are you excited to see make the USMNT’s Gold Cup roster?

  1. Julian Green, a kid I feel for, who got used by Herr Klinsmann’s gigantic and burdensome ego in the politics of the us mens national team

    • “who got used by Herr Klinsmann’s gigantic and burdensome ego”… What in God’s name are you talking about?! The kid’s career was made by JK’s puzzling decision to bring an unproven player to the World Cup. That goal against Belgium will most likely be the highlight of his career. While I was crushed that Donovan was not selected for WC2014, it’s ridiculous to argue that Green was a pawn in Jk’s head games and “got used”.

  2. The only new face I’d really like to see is Jackson Yueill and he is ineligible for the final roster, but is apparently training with the 40 man squad. He would make MB90 look like a traffic cone. Almeyda see’s a “European future” for him and definitely US Nats quality. I’d listen to that Argentine.

  3. I’m gonna be honest, don’t really need sargent in there, barely got any minutes for Bremen late in the season. Bring jozy and zardes as your strikers.
