Yueill, Trusty, Reyna headline U.S. U-23 roster for June camp

Jackson Yeuill, Auston Trusty, and Gio Reyna headline Jason Kreis’ 21-player roster for a June U-23 camp in Utah.

This will be the second camp for the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team under Kreis, which will run from June 9-16 in Herriman. The camp is another step for the U-23’s as they near qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

13 U-23 players recently were a part of combined summer camp which included members of the senior team.

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Jackson Yeuill is fresh from making his senior debut last week against Jamaica while Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and Gio Reyna helped the U.S. U-17’s qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Brenden Aaronson and Trusty have helped the Philadelphia Union to a current first-place spot in MLS’ Eastern Conference. Gedion Zelalem returns to international duty after joining Sporting KC earlier this season, while Real Salt Lake forward Brooks Lennon has also made the cut.

Here’s the entire roster:

GOALKEEPERS: JT Marcinkowski (San Jose Earthquakes; Alamo, Calif.), Andrew Thomas (Stanford University; London, England), Justin Vom Steeg (LA Galaxy; Santa Barbara, Calif.)

DEFENDERS: Marco Farfan (Portland Timbers; Gresham, Ore.), Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake; Tucson, Ariz.), Aaron Herrera (Real Salt Lake; Las Cruces, N.M.), Jack Maher (Indiana University; Caseyville, Ill.), Sam Rogers (Seattle Sounders FC; Seattle, Wash.), Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union; Media, Pa.)

  1. this is the 2nd time i’ve seen USSF refer to Reyna as “unattached” despite him signing with Dortmund over the winter.
likewise, George Acosta is with Boca Juniors and labeled as “unattached”.

    what gives?

  2. Do any of these guys feature for their professional clubs? I’m not talking about making the starting 18 but penciled into the starting 11. All the names I recognize see the field as USL players for their senior teams
I wish the Reyna boy was a replica of his father!

    • Yeuill has been great for SJ Earthquakes since he was given a shot and he is part of the reason they are trending upward. Looks to be a rising MLS talent, that has the tools and the brains to become the next Michael Bradley (not there yet).

      • At 22 Bradley was already at Borussia Monchengladbach after leaving Heerenveen with 16 goals in two years. Yeuil has a lot of catching to do but it would great if he blossoms

  3. People have to realize that this is just a camp to touch base with players who are age eligible and who may be available for the qualification tournament.
There are players who were on the current U-20 team who could be in consideration….but having just finished a WC were given time off to either recoup or to return to their club.
Additionally no current European players were called (CCV, EPB, Robinson, etc…..), guessing because they are unlikely to be released by their clubs for the qualification tournament.

    • The U23 players just had a combine with the senior team. That is why the Euro guys are not in this group, they already audition. This is the next group.

  4. Lennon was on the left-wing , de la Torre was on the right-wing Sargent was getting SERVICE to score 4 goals in 2017 U20 WC ..and also why he didn’t score in India with the U17s. Lennon starts @ RB for RSL, (think Zusi). Most of this squad, participated in U20s- ‘17 whether it was qualifying or WC, with a few exceptions. What irks me, most, is Jason Kreis, as an OCSC fan since 2011, I’ve seen in person what type of product, he puts on the pitch. (Had Kaka, still didn’t make the playoffs.) I hope, we qualify, for the Olympics, but if we don’t, I won’t be surprised. As for Gio Reyna, I’m confident, his pops knows, what he’s doing. If he signed a contract with Dortmund, he wouldn’t be able to participate in YNT, because of contract negotiations. Can’t be on the pitch, might get hurt. (Pulisic, Ledezma, Soto, T. Booth, McKennie, lost time with YNT, to play in the Bundesliga). No expert, …….jus research & read, & watch as many matches or links, I can.

  5. Does anyone know if Zelalem has played much for SKC? His stock has really fallen, it seems to me. I wonder if any of the U-20’s will be invited to a future camp. I think guys like Soto and Richards are good enough to contribute.

    • Read my mind with Zelalem, was wondering the same.
I remember thinking that MLS may be a good thing for him, get playing time.
But haven’t heard anything about him since the signing.

I see that he is on the roster for Swope Park Rangers? (Sporting KC’s USL team).
      Is that true?!

  6. I think Lennon played right wing for the U-20s 2 years ago in the WC in Korea. He is strong fast and while he might be a bit of a one-trick pony, he is a competitor able to impress himself on a game.
