Ethan Horvath has continued to man between the posts for Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge after holding the No. 1 spot last season. The 24-year-old U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper continued to start for Brugge as the club picked up its first three points of the new season.
A 3-1 road win over Waasland-Beveren has spring Brugge to the top spot in Belgium after Matchday 1. Hans Vanaken scored twice for Brugge who used a trio of goals to erase a first-half deficit on the road. Horvath has showed zero signs of relinquishing the No. 1 spot for Brugge after starring in the UEFA Champions League last campaign.
Horvath and Co. will next be in action on Aug. 2nd at home against St. Truiden.
Elsewhere, Emmanuel Sabbi found the back of the net for Hobro in a 2-2 leaguw draw while teammate Christian Cappis played the full 90. Jonathan Amon continued to not dress for Nordsjaelland. Julian Green got the nod in Greuther Furth’s season opener, however the playmaker could not help his side avoid a 2-0 loss. Sergino Dest was a lively performer in Ajax’s 2-0 win over PSV in the Dutch Super Cup on Saturday.

Hobro is looking to become the Danish Schalke, with all the Americans they are bringing in. Former ATL 2 forward Yosef Samuel has been on trial there and is expected to sign this week. I believe he attended a U20 camp but never played in any offial matches. He’s a dual national with Ethiopia. He apparently scored for Hobro reserves in a match last week. Samuel is 22 and had 2 goals and 2 assists in the USL for Atl2 and Bethlehem Steel.
Richards who missed Bayern’s US Tour with an ankle injury is back and trained with Bayern’s first team today.

Another Danish Superliga note:
GK Michael Lansing signed with Horsens a few weeks ago and has started their first 3 matches this season, including Saturday’s match against Copenhagen.
Unbelievably- these were his first three Superliga matches ever, despite dressing 37 times for Aalborg over the course of 2 seasons.

that’s good question. Akale’s been with Villarreal B for their preseason camp at Pinatar Arena, but he wasn’t on the team sheet for their final friendly yesterday.. so maybe there’s a move in the works? that would be great. he’s a good player but i don’t see first team football on his horizon if he sticks with Villarreal.
i don’t know much about de la Fuente’s summer, though.
as of now, i’m assuming he’s going to mostly be with Barca B this season.
Overall a pretty disappointing weekend. Some of thes U20 stars are awaiting loans/transfers and Richards is returning from injury but these guys taking over the NT is a long way off if they can’t even get in the field for youth teams.
Any idea on Erik Palmer-Brown’s future? Last week I tried to track him down and it appears that he’s gone back to City, but it seems highly unlikely they will keep him. A loan to a Championship team or somewhere else? Any idea?
