Report: PSV makes improved bid for Gloster

PSV is not giving up in their quest for Chris Gloster.

According to ESPN, the Dutch Eredivisie side has made an improved second offer to Hannover for Gloster’s services. Gloster’s current contract with Hannover expires at the end of this season.

Hannover has told Gloster he will remain a part of the first team if he stays at the club. However, PSV will be playing in either the UEFA Champions League or Europa League, which brings definite appeal to the 18-year-old.

Gloster has yet to make his senior debut for the 2. Bundesliga side outside of preseason friendlies this summer. He played the final 14 minutes of Hannover’s 1-0 loss to FC Groningen on Saturday.

The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team left back made 16 appearances last season with Hannover’s reserves while also appearing four times for the club’s U-19 side. Gloster also was an impressive performer for Tab Ramos’ side at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, helping the side reach its third consecutive quarterfinals.

PSV will face Swiss outfit FC Basel in the second round of Champions League qualifying beginning on July 23rd while Hannover opens league play at Stuttgart three days later.

  1. At this point I think either option has positives/negatives. Yes the B-2 isn’t as high as many of us would like, but if he’s getting consistent minutes it could be still be positive. If they can bounce back this season and get back to the B-1 with him playing good minutes it could do wonders for him.
PSV is one of the powerhouses in the Dutch league. Their showing interest and even raising their offer bodes well that they would give him a real chance and not just buy him and stick him in the youth squads.
I just want these kids to do well and progress so they can challenge for spots on the Sr. USMNT and replace some of the aging & uninspiring guys (Ream, Lovitz, Roldan, Bradley, Trapp, etc…). Gloster, Dest, and others from the recent U-20 team showed enough potential to make many of excited for what the USMNT could be in a couple years.

  2. People need to quit seeing Bundesliga analysis as gospel. His team sucked. Other teams there have felt they could do better than McBride or Donovan as kids. I think they are more open but I don’t take it as Truth. I don’t mind youth who head to Germany at 18 to be well trained but if they aren’t interested get the heck back out by 20. The eredivisie has been a good launching pad for our players and if allowed to leave we will see if he has anything. Personally I preferred Richards, but I think B.1 is often over ambitious as a club home.

  3. I hope they let him go we need a LB prospect and he and Dest are the only ones to appear who can hang at a somewhat high level.

    • The LB need is a definite. But this move, exciting on the surface as a big club seems to value him but having not been able play for the senior team at Hannover this past year is concerning. I think id rather see him get first team mins in bundasliga 2 for a year.
Hannover clearly cant be credited for player selection having been relegated but still.

Both him and Dest are hot prospects for us but both very much unproven pros. I agree, very much hope these guys flourish.

Side note, is Dest indeed a LB?
Not sure where he played for Ajax during the summer friendlies but recall him playing RB at some point.

      • I made a statement saying Dest plays RB and people corrected me and told me he plays RB and LB both for Ajax even though on the U-20 he was strictly a RB. I agree with Gloster playing some Bundesliga 2 ball. Was hopping he and Ledezma would work together to both make the first team.
