Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Gall, Green, and more

Romain Gall has struggled for consistent minutes with Malmo, but may see that change after a terrific performance in league play on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Malmo midfielder scored one goal and added two assists in the club’s 5-0 win over Falkenbergs in Allsvenskan play. It was Gall’s first league points of the new season which helped Malmo remain top of the league table.

His goal came seven minutes into the match at Swedbank Stadion as Gall headed home Jonas Knudsen’s cross into the bottom-left corner. With the team leading by two at the halftime break, Gall set up Arnor Traustason for Malmo’s third of the match in the 54th minute. The duo would connect again just three minutes later to extend the hosts advantage to four. Gall finished the match with an 88% passing completion rate, while winning six duels and making two successful tackles.

Gall will hope to be a part of Malmo’s Europa League showdown with Bnei Yehuda Tel A on Thursday as the club tries to get a positive performance on the road.

Joel Sonora found the back of the net for Arsenal de Sarandi, while Jonathan Klinsmann started for St. Gallen in Swiss Cup play. 2. CP started bright and quick, on the ball and off, part of Chelsea’s early good stuff. he then got fouled a number of times and took that weird ball off his toe, those really hurt, can get yourself a high ankle sprain off of those sometimes. he was not the same player after all of that seemed to me, without reading minds but just expressing an observation 😉 Pogba drilled him soon upon entry in that game. I think it was Perez who clipped him first with a hard one yesterday.

  3. Problem is Lampard rates Mount too highly. He’s either too selfish or lacks the vision to play in the middle. I lost count how many times he missed Pedro and Pulisic wide open only to dribble ahead into traffic and lose the ball.

  4. Thought I’d revisit my roster prediction from last week.
    – Guys I had in that might be playing their way out: Yueill (team struggling hasn’t been great), Pomykal (two road games this week looking tired), Sabbi (probably a stretch for a call up, no goals last three weeks looks like he’s staying at Hobro for now).
    – Guys moving up: Hyndman (play well against America), Ebobisse (9 goals 3 assists in all competitions) Miles Robinson (likely to represent U23s first given strong pool of CBs, Gall (needs playing time, good match against terrible team over weekend, Desavio Payne (has had 2 solid appearances for Emmen, if you can play LB you get a mention), Olessunde (started 5 matches for Rotherham across all comps, one report said he’s been man of the match for his squad each league game) Green (2 goals already this season, consistency?)
-Most of those guys on the rise are U23 eligible it will be interesting if that squad is brought together this fall at all.
    – I think we can safely rule out Yedlin, Adams, and Holmes at this point with just two weeks left before camp. I think everyone else is healthy unless Boyd has a concussion.

    • Solid stuff…. well done on the updates JR. I think you’re right on the availability front. Will be interesting to see who may be tapped up from the u-23 ranks, and what other new blood may (or may not) be brought in. Should be a very interesting selection. Clearly a lot opportunities across the field

    • I thought Sabbi’s play has been solid the last two times I have seen him play. He is starting to grow on me.
The player you didn’t mention is Cappi, he has started every game and looks to be a solid 2-way midfielder.

      Reply
      • Cappis is certainly in the running for U23s but he has a long way to go for full USMNT. Denmark is rated the 14th best league in Uefa and Hobro is toward the bottom of that league. Samuel and Deedson have jumped right into the first team after doing little in USL so that tempers my excitement over the Hobro contingent. But hey Toye did nothing in USL League One and now has 6 goals for The Loons.

    • Apparently somebody is not getting enough material for his weekly “Jonathan Gonazalez” report. At least Yedlin is still killing it right?

  5. Overall a good weekend for USMNT players abroad.
Multiple defenders seeing 90 consistently. Hopefully once Yedlin is back healthy we’ll have a full contingent to choose from.
Midfield Pulisic & Boyd are doing well, while our young prospects are taking positive steps forward. With a little patience we should see strong options by the time qualification starts heating up.
Striker is still a concern…but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

  6. Kenny Saief left Cincinnati seemingly in a huff in order to go to Belgium and watch games from the bench, or this week, from the stands. Great career move.

    • You sound like an ex who was scorned and enjoys the fact that he’s not playing. Grow up, Peter Pan. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened 🙂

      Reply
    • He was never that good to begin with imho…..it always amazed me how he just walked into the usmnt starting line up for some matches

  7. Very nervous Lampard is going to get sacked if he does not start winning, and if they get a new coach he might not rate Pulisic as a starter. In my opinion Willian is still better than Pulisic and should be starting.

    Reply
      • Dont matter dude, Willian has proven himself at Chelsea. This is just one game! How did he look terrible? You were at the game? I watched the whole game, and fans did not jeer at him. You just talking and spouting thrash!

    • A week ago after the Man U game, people were disappointed that Lampard didn’t rate Pulisic as a first choice starter. One week later, people are terrified that Pulisic is “Lampard’s guy” and he will be screwed if (or apparently “when”) Lampard gets fired shortly. Gonna be a silly year here.

      Reply
    • Between his legendary club status and the transfer ban, Lampard’s going to get some slack this year. He’s probably got more job security than any Premier League manager not named Pep or Klopp.
