D.C. United loans homegrown midfielder Chris Durkin to Sint-Truiden

D.C. United has loaned homegrown midfielder Chris Durkin to Belgian Pro League outfit Sint-Truiden until June 2020.

The club announced the move on Friday which will see Durkin aim for first-team minutes in Belgium. Durkin, 19, has scored one goal and registered one assist in 36 league appearances in MLS.

“Over the past two seasons with D.C. United, Chris has managed to gain valuable first team minutes,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. “We feel he is now ready to test himself in Europe in a very competitive league. We are confident Chris will adapt quickly and show his quality and we will be monitoring his progress closely.”

2019 has seen Durkin make 13 league appearances, scoring one goal. He last appeared on Aug. 4th in a 5-1 home loss to the Philadelphia Union.

Also a player with the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team, Durkin appeared in four of the team’s five matches at this year’s U-20 World Cup.

Durkin will be the fourth American player currently in the Belgian First Division, joining Ethan Horvath, Brendan Hines-Ike, and Kenny Saief.

  1. Crazy How I was advocating for the kid being a better prospect than Parks and Trapp and people were clowning and downing me for it. HAHA! Bet he is a starter and makes an immediate impact. The kid is three years younger than Parks and seven years younger than Trapp LOL!

    • There two current DMs are a Belgium U21 starter and a guy that’s started the last two seasons, I’d be surprised if he jumps right in to a lot of playing time, unless one of those guys moves.

      • Not really their is no other prospect that has his skill at his age. People talk about his play being slow, that is because he needs to play in Europe to upgrade that part of his game. Parks and Trapp have not made any recent accomplishments recently. Durkin was part of a U-20 team that made it far and gets plenty of playing time. If he was average or not all that why was he not sent to a team in the Belgian First Division B, which is the second division and only has 8 teams?

    • Some hope free your dream after doing some more research their opening day DM broke his arm and U21 player prefers CB so maybe they’ll move him back to CB and play Durkin. However in fairness no one downed you for saying Durkin is a better prospect that is certainly a debate but reasonable. Both Trapp and Parks are better right now which is why they’d deserve a callup over Durkin.

But again that’s prospect not call up worthy. You don’t prospect hunt with the National team. If not for his transfer I’m sure he’d be with the U23s which is where he should be.
