Green’s late penalty propels Furth to win in league return

Julian Green is one player who may have deserved a closer look for U.S. Men’s National Team duty this month and the winger made the most of return to league play Friday.

The Greuther Furth winger continued his strong domestic campaign abroad, scoring the game-winning goal in his team’s return to 2. Bundesliga play. Green’s 91st minute penalty kick goal proved to be the difference as Greuther Furth downed Wiesbaden 2-1 at home.

Furth dug deep in the second half, scoring two goals including the winner ten minutes apart. After Daniel Keita-Ruel scored the equalizer in the 81st minute, Green stepped up to hand his team all three points.

David Raum drew the foul and Green’s right-footed shot sent Lukas Watkowiak the wrong way for his third goal of the season.

Green finished the match with two shots on goal out of five in total and helped his side extend its unbeaten league run to four matches.

Furth, currently third in the league standings with 11 points from six matches, next faces a trip to VfB Stuttgart on Sept. 21st.

  1. he had a goal on france before they won the world cup, and on belgium in a world cup knockout. what the heck are we talking about, “hope he gets another chance?” like he’s roldan or something with 15 caps and no goals or assists. scrubs on this team who do nothing and we’re not sure green does enough. whatever.

  2. I’d like to see Green get another shot with the USMNT. While I don’t think he’s a starter when everyone is healthy he is a useful player to have in your 23 since he can be plugged in at multiple positions in the attacking half.
Lets be honest….the USMNT is in Transition and is struggling at many of the positions that Green could be fielded at.
At the 10 spot he’d be competing against Holmes & Roldan right now.
At LM he’d be competing for a back-up role against Baird & Arriola
At RM he’d be competing with Boyd & Weah

I can’t imagine that he’d be much of an diva considering how far he’s fallen sine his 1st cap with the US. He’s not being asked to be a savior anymore, but is a placeholder until the younger generation options finish their development.

  3. Green is definitely a guy I would like to see have another chance with the Nats.
He seems to be playing regularly, and he’s shown he can score vs. big name teams – I mean he did score on Belgium during a WC and vs France away, not a small feat!
I generally have good recollection of his games with the USMNT, and honestly he deserves at least to be called up, no? He’s pretty versatile in where he can play up front, too.
Not saying he is our savior (it’s only 2nd division, after all), but he could be a very useful piece of the puzzle
    Thoughts?.

    • Wether he’ll ever hold down a starring spot with the USA is questionable but this is the kinda guy that can be brought on to impact a game. I can see him being a potential super sub for us

    • Also based on what I’ve gathered he’s playing more as an attacking midfielder for his club. Would be interesting to see him at the #10 Spot for the national team

    • I’ve been posting for awhile, about Green being the 10, until CP is ready to take over, after ‘22. Lletget has skill, no doubt but Green in the center makes the offense dynamic, because he’s s threat to score! I’m not a fan of him, being a winger, the matches I’ve seen over the years, leads me to believe that he’s more effective in the center, with the 2 matches you have highlighted. (I feel the same way about Zardes!). Of course,… he plays in B.2., IMO, I don’t care as much about what league a player is in, but how well they play together! USMNTs montra always been “Hope & Teamwork! The underdogs will bite! Right now, it’s “ I Hope This Team Works?!” Is this team gonna show any fight?!
      LW-CP 9-Morris RW- Lletget

      10- Green
      8- McKennie
      6- Adams

LB- A. Robinson RB- Shaq Moore

      CBs- (Healthy)Brooks, Miazga

      Steffen

This is the lineup I’m Hoping we’ll see, These players give you versatility, to play a 4-3-3, or a 4-2-3-1, (Is how I set this line up, but I think a 3-5-2 is the formation of now), 2 players fresh into Europe, 2 from MLS,(I watch MLS, buy jerseys, go to matches, but @ this moment, less is better.), no players past their prime, creativity with physicality! (Watch the friendly vs. Ireland, I know we lost, but Moore got physical with their goal scorer). Something that’s been sorely missing from USMNT!
