Bradley’s comments are remarkable because they are how opponents would say about the US up until after WC Brazil. The trademark hustle and drive has been missing for a long time.

Meh – could say the same about all the ones Canada missed. The truth is the US team had zero motivation and cohesion, and an energetic and “die on the field” Canada was going to win this one all day long.
This is being talked about as a ‘real wake up call,’ but come on. how many of those can we have? This is systemic. If a few players have a poor game, you look at the players. If a whole team consistently has poor games, you have to look at the coach and his staff.
Anyone who still thinks Berhalter is the man for the situation needs to get their heads checked.
This was an utterly embarrassing display against MLS role players and 2 guys on the bench in Europe.
In fact, aside from blowing out minnows or B/C teams, there hasn’t been one game where we played decently under Berhalter. No ideas, lame rosters, lame tactics. Just a bad very naive and inexperienced international coach in way over his head.
Hopefully Berhalter gets fired this week, before it’s too late.
I believe we have the players in the pool to do something interesting, we just need someone at the helm who understands how to steer an international team and get results.
I don’t get the lack of desire, killer instinct, passion, or whatever you want to call it. There is something really wrong with the mentality. It comes down to two things that a lot of us have noticed and Ives mentioned above. 1) The coaching staff has not built the trust in the system and do have have full buy in from the players. Part of that comes down to selection. When players you know if lesser ability are constantly chosen, it destroys the morale. For a game here and there, you can deal with one or two players like that, but when it’s consistent it undermines the confidence the other players have in the coach due to the perceived favoritism.

2) There is a lack of leadership from the older players that Ives referenced. I think McKennie can be that type of player down the line, or Pulisic, but they’re not there yet. There is no Jermaine Jones that isn’t going to tolerate a lack of effort and can complement a good coaching staff. You know you better show up because they always will.

Of course, the is a coming from an old guy armchair quarterbacking it. I know these guys are professionals and supposed to be beyond the petty things. Still, they’re human, and over time it will wear on you if you’re in a bad culture. And that starts at the top, beyond Berhalter.

Agree Bizzy. Remember after January folks were legit talking about Lima having passed Yedlin at the RB spot. There was an article about it at SSFC and other speaking about too here but it just shows how warped our minds are about soccer her in the US. No outside the US manager in his right mind would ever see Lima over Yedlin. I flipped out over the same thing when we totally ignored a healthy Chandler in fact or of Zusi during WC qualifying when Yedlin was out a few windows. Player selection is a problem the goes back years even under JK who wouldn’t call in Sacha Klejstian even though he had the second most minutes of UCL some years after JJ. I really want us to hire a complete outsider who is oblivious to our biases and warped soccer culture, a manager whose track record speaks for itself who can rebuild this with an outsiders perspective on the sport.
Joe: Berhalter didn’t choose Lima over Yedlin and quoting a Stars and Stripes article as your proof there was widespread support for that isn’t like Trump wuoting a Twitter poll as fact. Let’s also not forget that Yedlin’s lack of awareness allowed the first goal or that his terrible crossing wasted half of the few chances we had. You could forgive Yedlin except it happens to him on a fairly regular basis. Now if you want to talk Holmes vs Roldan.
