Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Sabbi, Morales, and more

For the second-consecutive match and the third appearance in his last six, Emmanuel Sabbi scored for Danish Superliagen side Hobro.

The 21-year-old forward scored from a beautifully taken free kick in the 31st minute of Hobro’s 2-1 loss to Odense on Sunday. Sabbi curled a right-footed kick into the top-left corner for his fifth league goal of the season.

Although Sabbi got on the scoresheet for the second week in a row, Hobro could not fight back for a point as their winless run was extended to six matches. Currently sitting in 12th place in the Superliga table, Hobro are 10 points from the playoff places and next host Nordsjaelland on Nov. 10th.

Elsewhere, Eric Lichaj helped Hull City shut out Fulham in a league win, while Antonee Robinson played the full 90 in Wigan Athletic’s loss to Swansea City. Christian Pulisic scored for the second-consecutive league match in a row, Weston McKennie helped Schalke outlast Augsburg away from home, and Zack Steffen and Alfredo Morales shutdown Koln in a home derby win.

  1. Love how Morales isn’t afraid to be that rough guy in midfield. The USA has been missing that bite there since Jermaine Jones played. Bradly and Trapp can pass a long ball, but don’t provide that physical presence.

  2. Dest must have started almost 10 games in a row for Ajax. He declares for the US and then doesn’t play at all. Is he hurt, just a coincidence, or what? Wish Tyler Adams would start playing.

  3. Do we have to pay to comment on certain articles now? Could not comment on the Alfredo Morales article? Hermano Ives por que?????

  4. I watched the Wigan and Swansea game this weekend. Antonee Robinson is not the answer to LB. He also lost his mark and Dyer from Swansea scored the first goal. I would not call him up until his defense improves the offense is there, but the defense and mental lapses I remember seeing in the Jamaica friendly were present when Robinson played againt Swansea yesterday. Happy to see Pulisic on the score sheets again. Morales and Steffan were awesome also for Dusseldorf

    • Robinson is 22, and has half as many senior (club) appearances as Roldan, and 1/3 of Trapp. These 2 guys are called up continually and still have defensive lapses but people still support them (ha!). Give the kid a break!

      • Bro their are a ton of defenders that are 22 and under that are killing it in Europe at CB and LB dont give me that 22 excuse. Look at De Ligt, Wan Bissaka, Chilwell, Hakimi, Renan Lodi, Theo Hernandez, etc.

      • Also my fav player who is killing it the most is Trent John Alexander-Arnold/ 21 nd killing it so dont give me Robinson is 22 excuse.

    • None of our Wide Defenders are all that great at defending. It’s one of the reasons many are calling for a 3 back formation with Dest/Robinson & Yedlin/Cannon as wingbacks playing further up the pitch. It takes some of the defensive responsibilities off them, while helping to shore up our weak wide midfield play.
Unfortunately Berhaulter can’t seem to realize this and continues to use Lovitz & Ream as his LB options, which tends to allow teams to stretch our back line creating mis-matches and open passing lanes.
