Former USMNT boss Klinsmann fails to present coaching license

Former U.S. Men’s National Team head coach and current Hertha Berlin manager Jurgen Klinsmann is in a tricky situation abroad.

Klinsmann has failed to present the German Football Association an up to date coaching license at Berlin, with the Bundesliga season set to resume this weekend. The German-American stated in an interview with German outlet Bild that he left the required paperwork at his home in California.

  1. I assume he found someone who could get into his home and somehow get the credentials to him.
It is Germany after all and they do have rules! The rules will be enforced! So the only option is to get the documents.

  2. CEUs are a bureaucratic racket. I get the premise but rarely do CEUs actually add to someone’s professional knowledge or practice in their profession. They are just another thing one has to do to stay licensed and a huge money maker for the bearacracy of the profession. What kind of soccer related CEU is out there that Jurgen Klinsman is going to learn from? From interviews it seems his biggest influences are visiting other sports teams and talking with othe coaches and of course on the job experience. These are not credited as CEUs and are way more useful than rushing through some online courses to fulfill a requirement. Bah! CEUs…and to a lesser extent licensure as a whole. I get it but it’s a broken inefficient system that is window dressing. I’m not a big JK fan but not letting him coach due to some paperwork is ridiculous.

  3. This is the funny thing about Euro soccer. It is a huge, huge business, but the owners and management often treat the business like you or me volunteering to run a local over 40 club team all-the-while running our own business or working at our real jobs. I forgot my homework.

  4. This might be the most Klinsy thing possible. Grand ideas to change around Hertha but forgets to think about the small details like his paperwork (not once but twice).
