European soccer’s wait for the return of top-flight league action now has an end date.

The German Bundesliga will resume play on May 16, as will the German second division, with both leagues set to return to action after a two-month absence, the German DFL announced on Thursday.

The leagues will pick up where they left off, with the opening matches being the ones scheduled for Matchday 26. The Bundesliga will look to play all remaining matches on its schedule, with the final set of matches scheduled for June 27-28.

Schalke’s visit to Borussia Dortmund in the latest installment of the Revierderby headlines the return slate of matches, with Freiburg’s visit to RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich’s trip to face Union Berlin among other notable matches.

Here is the schedule for the first slate of matches:

Bayern Munich currently sits in first place in the Bundesliga, four points ahead of Borussia Dortmund and five points ahead of RB Leipzig.

Americans Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna will face off against each other for the first time when Dortmund faces Schalke, while Josh Sargent and Werder Bremen face a tough test from Bayer Leverkusen.

Julian Green and Gruether Fuerth will take on Hamburg in the featured match of the 2. Bundesliga return slate. Here is the full 2. Bundesliga schedule for the first slate of matches after the return to action:

  1. But more importantly what matches will be televised. Unfortunately, NASCAR is reopening that weekend too, will we actually get to see any of these matches or will Fox air Truck series practice?

    • Hopefully Fox will put matches on Fox Sports 2, which I get, and not on Fox Sports P which I don’t get. Pre-virus they would put featured games, usually Munich on FS 1, and other matches on FS 2, with what they considered less interesting matches on FS P. Because of the time difference some early matches should be on FS1 of 2 before any NASCAR.

      • Sling doesn’t have FS2, which usually as you say gets me Bayern. Fox didn’t have any schedule listed yesterday I wonder if they are reworking with Bundesliga how many matches they can air. I’d hope they’d have at least one Saturday match on straight Fox since they have nothing else to air. It just bugs me when FS1 has race practice on instead of a match, ughh.

      • Released today:
BvB vs Schalke, Frank. Vs BMoch, both Sunday matches on FS1
Leipzig FS2, Bremen on FS2 Monday
All the other matches on FS Match Pass
No matches on Fox over the air the first weekend.

    • shouldn’t be happening. 2 dresden players tested positive and they put the whole team in quarantine.

      • Without knowing how these two contracted the virus you can’t say the whole league should be shut down. Germany is heading towards the bottom of the curve with virtually no cases projected by the end of the month. Players have to abide by the rules and be honest about their health. We don’t know if one these guys had symptoms but didn’t report it or off they broke distancing rules and went to a party? The US is no where near being ready for this with the curve flattening across much of the nation but not descending. The Bundesliga is essentially first to reopen (Korea held matches this weekend) there will be mistakes but the rest of the world will be able to learn and hopefully avoid those mistakes.
