Wolfsburg’s quest for European Football next season remained very much alive after a 1-0 road win over Werder Bremen on Sunday.
John Brooks excelled in the Wolves backline, playing 90 minutes and finishing as one of the top performers for the visitors. Brooks won seven duels from his centerback position, also winning four aerial battles and successfully winning two tackles. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender helped limit Bremen to only two shots on goal in the win, one that sees Wolfsburg sit two points clear of seventh place Hoffenheim.
Tyler Adams also impressed this weekend for RB Leipzig despite a disappointing 1-1 draw with last place Paderborn. Adams won seven of his individual battles while also making five recoveries and winning three tackles. Continuing to be a versatile player for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, Adams and Leipzig will try to bounce back Friday at Hoffenheim.
Elsewhere, Kenny Saief registered an assist off the bench in a 2-2 draw for Polish side Lechia Gdansk. Terrence Boyd couldn’t help Hallescher avoid a lopsided defeat at the bottom of the 3. Liga table, despite coming off the bench. Julian Green and Timothy Tillman were ineffective as Greuther Furth’s chances of promotion took another major hit.

I didn’t see the Werder Bremen v. Wolfsburg game, so I’m not commenting on Sargent’s performance in that game specifically. And I get that he’s young and might improve, and I get that he’s on a bad team where nobody is scoring.
Having said all that, he’s a striker, and striker’s who don’t score don’t last very long. A lot of people are very high on Sargent, but I’m not sold. Yes, he works hard, tackles, comes back to the ball and lays it off. All good qualities. But he doesn’t score much, and doesn’t set others up much.
I’m not writing him off. It’s not like the national team has a bunch of quality strikers. Hopefully he’ll improve and become more productive, either with Bremen in B2 or somewhere else.
Does anyone know if Jamie Leweling, of Greuther Furth, is eligible to represent the US? I cannot find this information anywhere. With a name like that, he’s likely to have something other than German in him.
Saief’s assist was pretty good.

There generally aren’t laws against nepotism in non-government jobs and US Soccer is not a government agency, it’s a non-profit. Given that he played in 3 of the top leagues in the world and captains a team that has made 3 of the last 4 MLS Cups, add in he played for four other managers for the US after his dad was fired and you’d never win the case even if you could.
My first response disappeared sorry if this ends up being a repeat. He’s never played for US or Germany at any level so he doesn’t get much hype. ASN has talked about him some but with Pulisic firmly in place and guys like Weah, Llanez, and Reyna playing the same position most aren’t interested in a soon to be 28 yr old whose never played for a first division club.
