Mix Diskerud is making his way back to Sweden on a short-term loan.
Allsvenskan side Helsingborg have acquired Diskerud on loan from Manchester City. The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder has earned 37 caps in his international career and recently played with Ulsan Hyundai in the South Korean K-League.
“The audience in Allsvenskan is fantastic,” Diskerud said. “It is Swedish passion, passion, passion. Different and good. I have felt it myself. Now the Swedish matches, the support and the audience are completely different in the middle of a pandemic.”

Diskerud spent two seasons with Ulsan Hyundai in 2018 and 2019. He scored eight league goals in 48 appearances for the club.
The 29-year-old has also played for NYCFC, Goteborg, Rosenborg, Gent, and Stabaek during his club career. He will join a Helsingborg side who kick off their league season on June 15 after a lengthy layoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Helsingborg finished 10th in the 16-team Allsvenskan last season and will join fellow international teammate Aron Johannsson in the league this season.
Almost as well traveled as Freddy Adu, although with more success. Good luck because from a health stand point he would be much better off in South Korea than Sweden.The death rate in Sweden from COVID-19, adjusted for population, is about 85 times worse than in South Korea.
Remember 10 years ago when the internet would have went wild if a 29 year old US player was playing in Sweden and wasn’t getting call up.
I was thinking this morning about how we have almost a whole team’s worth of players on first teams in the Bundesliga. Only Llanez hasn’t been a regular and Steffan not playing due to injury. Not only that, but we have 4 or 5 players who could be playing in the Champions League. Fans have been supportive, I think, of the idea of the US playing the kind of style that Klinsmann and Berhalter have talked about. but we have lacked the players for it. I think we are now at the point where we have the players to play possession, quick passing and free flowing soccer
bull. scandinavia used to be poor man’s europe for second tier MLS players who wanted a salary bump without being a star while playing in a similar quality league. kind of like scotland 2 for harkes. or austria.
berhalter and klinsi do not share a style. dutch soccer and german soccer are not the same thing. to me the dutch could care less about defense and like to work the ball all the way up from the back. they are able to play balls from the back because they don’t play defense. we have been befuddled by our struggles because concacaf plays harder defense than the eredivisie. i have seen us maybe mount one full play in a year where the ball was worked from the back through the middle and we eventually got a shot, no goal. germany plays different soccer. i would love if we played german style. they do try to keep the ball on the floor and attack with technique (but also speed) but they defend very physically to stop attacks and win the ball. germany has won several world cups. holland has never won one. the two are not to be confused.
Funny how IV dismisses Scandinavian leagues but cries when Gall who rarely gets on the field for Malmo doesn’t get called in.
Charlie Davies and Alejandro Bedoya would argue with you as well. Clarence Goodson (Den, Nor), Bennie Feilhaber (Den), Heath Pearce (Den), Michael Parkhurst (Den), Aron Johansson (Den). All of those guys except Davies played over 20 matches for the USMNT. That’s the thing I guy like a Ledezma would have had to go to Norway or Denmark 10 years ago to have a chance to play somewhere else or it was a place to stop before coming home to MLS.

Berhalter’s system is based on Guardiola who is Spanish and played the majority of his career in Spain. Fun fact Berhalter actually spent one more season in Germany than he did in The Netherlands. To be fair Klinsmann’s system of “just go express yourself on the game” wasn’t really the typical German style either.
