Pulisic scores stunning goal against Manchester City

If his goal against Aston Villa wasn’t enough to show you he is fully recovered from injury, Christian Pulisic delivered a stunning goal on Thursday to show the English Premier League that he is all the way back.

Pulisic handed Chelsea a 1-0 advantage of second place Manchester City on Thursday, scoring his second goal in as many matches this month. After a mental breakdown between Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan, Pulisic snatched a loose ball and raced downfield.

The 21-year-old breezed past Mendy before sliding a right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of Ederson’s goal. It was a fabulous finish from Pulisic who scored his seventh league goal of the current season.

Not only did the goal put Chelsea in front at Stamford Bridge, but it sparked a home win for Frank Lampard’s side. Despite a second-half free kick from Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Willian’s penalty kick winner handed Chelsea the win and Liverpool a first EPL title since 1990.

Pulisic had another glorious chance to add to his tally after halftime, rounding Ederson and slotting a shot towards goal, but Kyle Walker cleared the winger’s effort.

It was a strong performance from Pulisic who looks confident and ready to go with seven league matches remaining.

  1. For those who didn’t see, the one that was cleared off the line was about two thirds over the line. Only a couple of inches short of being a goal.He did well on the play, too to round the GK and then have an open net. He had to shoot a little off balance because he couldn’t wait or the angle would have been too great. As a result, the shot lacked a little power. BTW, not directly related, but in McKennie’s last game I meant to mention that he had an excellent slalom run past 3 or 4 defenders down the middle of the field and then passed off to someone on the wing who missed with the shot. Although there was no score, it was a Pulisic like or Donovan like run that was very encouraging to see.

    • hey Gary, great call on the Donovan like run. When he baited the last defender to dive in and then blew by him to set up the finish, LD did that over and over. Anyway, CP’s goal changed the game, put fear into City, incredible! He’s an awesome player on the counter and can get much better too imo, some specific things

      • Yes, beachbum, I really meant both. The other day I wrote that Pulisic is like a combination of Donovan and Dempsey. Within a year or two I think he really could be world class, the first non GK American to be really in that category..

  2. Really looking forwards to what the USMNT will look like when international games finally return. Our midfield is beginning to look very, very good when you consider how Pulisic, Reyna, McKennie, & Adams are all developing. These 4 should be able to boss any midfield in our region except Mexico….and should provide enough balance that the opposition can’t focus in on any single individual.
COVID-19 has made it difficult to get a real since of where are player pool is at, but there is a lot of talent emerging that should help get us back on track after the disaster that was 2018.

It’s not a finished product and there are still many holes/unknowns that will need to be addressed. This cycle should be very entertaining & interesting so long as Berhaulter doesn’t screw things up by hanging onto “Names” or trying to meet some kind of MLS player Quota.
