Sergino Dest is being watched by two of Europe’s top clubs and reportedly there is a new name added to the list.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have begun monitoring Dest in hopes of possibly adding the U.S. Men’s National Team defender, according to ESPN. The 19-year-old right back has seen his stock rise drastically over the last year, becoming a first-team starter for Eredivisie side Ajax.
PSG are reportedly interested in Lazio’s Adam Marusic, but should that deal fall through then Dest is an option this summer. Totaling 35 appearances in all competitions this season, Dest made his debut in the UEFA Champions League this season, playing in the playoff and group stage.
Dest’s strong campaign in Amsterdam saw him awarded the club’s Young Player of the Year. Despite the tricky obstacle of choosing his international allegiance, Dest impressed for Erik Ten Hag’s side and helped them to a first place finish in the Eredivisie prior to the postponement of the league season.
Bayern Munich was first to express their interest in the American right back, reportedly offering Ajax €20 million last summer for his signature. However, the club turned down the offer from Bayern, giving Dest the opportunity to play immediate first team football after impressing with the club’s Under-23 team.
Bayern and Barcelona both remain in the hunt for Dest, with this summer being the next possible time to revamp their offer for him. Bayern currently has Dest’s U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team teammate Chris Richards under contract, as well as American midfielder Taylor Booth.
Should Dest receive an offer from Barcelona, he could team up with fellow international teammate Konrad De La Fuente, who currently is set to resume action with Barcelona’s B team.

I hope he doesn’t go to PSG for selfish reasons. It would mean adding Bein or another channel to my sports package to see him when I would prefer he goes to the Premier League or Bundesliga, which I already get.
Bundesliga going to ESPN+ next season but for 5.99 a month it’s worth it if you don’t already have it.
Maybe he has less to worry about with a foot in the door, but I don’t get following the Weah career path. PSG only slowed down Weah’s rise at the senior NT level. And more pointedly, he is an interesting but flawed defender who needs to work on playing actual defense. I don’t know if he gets “that” fighting to play 10 minutes once in a while for PSG. He needs to go someplace that will play him and where they drill some defensive solidity into him.
Weah/Dest is an apples/oranges comparison. To be sure, he should get assurances of PSG or any club’s plan for him if he is going to transfer there. PSG could be an excellent career move for him if they have a good plan in place for the player. Train vs the world’s top attacking players day in day out. Experience in another club, like Ajax, where you are expected to win every single week. Champions league games vs the top teams in the world. Ligue 1 which is a step up from the Eredivisie.
As you say he has plenty of room to improve still. That’s true of any 19 year old though isn’t it? Sitting on the bench anywhere won’t help him, but if PSG sees him as their next RB its a move he should absolutely consider.
Trying to link the situations of an academy player and a player with that made 27 first team starts including 5 CL starts and 2 Europa League starts as the same? If PSG spends more 20 million on a RB you can bet he’s playing more than 10 minutes once in awhile. Weah was behind Mbappe, Cavani, and Neymar, PSG doesn’t have that quality at their FB positions. As far as criticism of his defensive quality your thinking in the past FBs are valued more now as wide offensive players. Look at Davies for Bayern is everyone going crazy over him as a LB because of his defense, no no they are not. I don’t know that he’ll go anywhere this window because if the virus disrupting seasons but if goes to one of these clubs they’re aren’t bringing him in to sit in the bench at price he’ll demand.

I get your overall point, but Dest can’t recover as good as Davies, no where near.
And his defense is weaker. That being said, week in and week out, he won’t be called on to defend much playing with PSG, like he isn’t now at Ajax.
Quit: You right Davies has the speed advantage but his defense isn’t any better maybe worse. Dest certainly outplayed Davies in their head to head in November. If you had to choose one FB you’d pick Davies but wouldn’t be because of his defense you can live with his defense because his offense is going to control that side most nights. Even though Davies is a superstar LB I still think Canada needs to play him as a winger or 2nd forward.
Actually I don’t think things worked out badly for Weah as far as his club moves. He had to play behind some of the best players in Europe, but then he got part of a big transfer fee and a good chance to play on a top French team. Lille made the CL this past season and were 4th when the season halted. If Weah hadn’t been hit so badly with injuries and was getting a lot of minutes at Lille we would be saying how well things worked out for him.
It’s just typical IV, distorting facts to try to make them fit into his constantly negative view of everything American Soccer. Weah isn’t playing at Lille because he aimed to high in League 1 instead of the fact that he was injured in the 2nd match. Weah didn’t miss the GC because he wanted to play in the U20s because scouts would be there and allow him to move to a new club and be there at the start of camp instead arriving a week before the season began.
