After stepping into the Bayern Munich job to calm the waters, Hansi Flick found himself responsible for a treble last season, including a first UEFA Champions League success since 2013.
It will be a tough act to follow as Bayern returns to action on Friday, but it starts the season against a Schalke side which spent the end of 2019 staving off the drop zone.
Saturday’s Borussia Dortmund vs. Borussia Monchengladbach matchup kicks off the season with a Rhineland Derby, and will be a big test for both parties who figure to be title contenders once again this year.
The Serie A season also begins in Italy, where defending champions Juventus start the season against Sampdoria, andWeston McKennie could make his debut for the Old Lady.
English Premier League play is headlined by Chelsea’s home date with defending champions Liverpool despite not having Christian Pulisic and a slew of other plays available through injury.

NBC also has the U.S. Open and the last two stages of the Tour de France this weekend. Maybe that’s why they’re only showing one game a day on NBCSN.
It really is quite sad. I get even more frustrated with MLS during the week being on ESPN+ when there is pretty much no other live sports on broadcast TV. It’s like they have no idea how to build a brand or grow youth interest in the sport. These pay-to-watch streaming services are turning soccer into Boxing in the states where there is a small rabid fanbase, but most people never get exposed to any of the product.
Apparently all soccer is now on pay to play. Look how many broadcast games there are…10%?
It is astounding to me. And the choices they make. They put Chelsea vs. Liverpool, probably the most important EPL game of the week, on the Peacock and Leicester vs. Burnley on NBCSN.I don’t know what NBCSN is putting on instead of EPL soccer, but now it seems like soccer is an afterthought.
They’re trying to get people to subscribe to the streaming service, so that’s where they’re going to put at least some of the most attractive games.
Anyway, I don’t do streaming (yet), so this is bad news for me. From 5-6 EPL games a weekend down to 1-2, same for the Bundesliga. Maybe one Serie A game a weekend, often on ESPN Deportes. I get BeIN, so maybe I’ll start watching the French and Spanish leagues more. Even MLS is going more and more to streaming.
