Weston McKennie made his first start for Juventus since September 27th and helped the Old Lady to a convincing league win on the road.
McKennie registered one assist while playing 62 minutes in a 4-1 triumph over Spezia on Sunday. The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder has fully recovered from his spell with COVID-19 and helped set up the opening goal for Juventus in what turned out to be an easy day. McKennie’s dashing run into the box allowed Juventus to take a 14 minute lead over Spezia, with the midfielder passing to a wide-open Alvaro Morata for the opening goal.
The 21-year-old also won two fouls from his midfield position and also won two aerial battles. McKennie was replaced by Aaron Ramsey after halftime and will now look to make his first UCL start for the Turin club this week against Ferencvaros.
Matt Miazga helped Anderlecht to an important 1-0 league win over Royal Antwerp on Sunday. Miazga played 90 minutes in the heart of Vincent Kompany’s backline, winning two tackles and making one recovery from his centerback position. Miazga continued to start for the Belgian side as he aims to help the club fight for a league title this season.
Emmanuel Sabbi’s strong first season with Danish side Odense continued Sunday as he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Horsens. Sabbi played 73 minutes in the match while bagging his third league goal in his seventh appearance overall. The U.S. Men’s National Team winger scored from close range which moved Odense up to eighth in the league table.
Elsewhere, Josh Sargent also scored in Bundesliga play for Werder Bremen while Matthew Hoppe scored off the bench for Schalke II. Geoff Cameron helped QPR to a league win over Cardiff City while Julian Green also found the back of the net this weekend. Gboly Ariyibi scored from the penalty spot for Greek club Panetolikos, but unfortunately saw his team concede a pair of late goals to lose 3-1.

Weston was kind of a force for Juve today. Couple of errors but tough on opponents in all phases.
Sargent finally got a look at goal. Does not get many. I have watched all of his minutes this season and I’m more impressed than most on this site. Tremendous work rate. I wonder what he could do on a creative side that generates more chances.
He was partially responsible for the goal though.
Is EPB at DM an answer? Good defender, good passer, allows Adams and Wes to run all over and break up attacks because he’s protecting the CBS. He can drop between the CBs in possession and let both FBs to get forward. Because both Dest and Robinson can take the wide spaces Reyna and Pulisic play in a narrower position. I know some won’t like it because it pushes Tyler up but aren’t you willing to trade EPB for Yeuill?
But then that pushes Gio out of the midfield.
I don’t like it because it would mean we either don’t have Reyna as ACM or he plays wide as winger. I like having a true 9 (Sargent) in the lineup.
Reyna would still be narrow because the FBs overlap for the width. It would be how is played when Rues is opposite him he really only plays that #10 when Sancho and Haaland are up top.
I don’t think people remember. EPB earned a contract from Man City for his performance in the U20 CONCACAF tournament in ‘17. EPB played the 6! He’s more than capable! Adams played the 8 in that same tournament. No reason why, it wouldn’t work, since that partnership was successful 3 years ago. Sargent would be happy! McKennie, Holmes, & healthy Morales could play the 8.
Julian Green(10) or Shaq Moore(RB), can play the 8, in a pinch. Reyna doesn’t have to move from the 10, or midfield. If we’re talking MLS, Delgado, Hassani Dotson, a willing Nagbe can play in front of EPB. Dotson is a good 6, also! He’s a better ball winner, and more athletic than Yueill, just not a better passer. What happened to Canouse? He used to be apart of the D-mid convo.
