Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Musah, Olosunde, and more

Yunus Musah faced his toughest opponent yet in his La Liga career, but the young American held his own against defending champions Real Madrid.

Musah played 87 minutes in a 4-1 home victory against Los Blancos, winning a penalty kick and almost coming to close to scoring himself. The 17-year-old came close to scoring in the 33rd minute, beating Thibaut Courtois, but VAR ruled that the youngster was offsides after a saved penalty kick by Carlos Soler. After seeing his team go up 3-1, Musah won a penalty kick after the hour mark after forcing Sergio Ramos into a handball in the penalty area. Soler capped his hat-trick and Valencia earned a huge league victory.

Musah also completed 85% of his passes and successfully completed two dribbles and now heads into his first U.S. Men’s National Team camp under Gregg Berhalter.

Elsewhere, Matthew Olosunde made his first league start since February while Ventura Alvarado was a top performer for Atletico San Luis despite a 1-0 league loss on Friday. John Brooks helped keep Wolfsburg unbeaten while Antonee Robinson continued to play for Fulham. 1. Yosef Samuel is no longer at Hobro
“Yosef Samuel, who has had his contract with the club revoked, is also said goodbye today. Yosef Samuel came to Hobro IK last summer on a two-year contract, but due to lack of playing time, it has been agreed to terminate his contract a year ahead of time.”

  2. I want to see if Musah can play as an 8. If Otawasie can play anything close to his videos as 6 or RCB. I want to see how much KDLF has improved. If Weah can play like his old self and I want to see if the kid Nico has the chops to play for us.

    • C’mon Boricua! You know the conversation just got started, lol. He’s 17 and has the US fans, like you and I, excited to see him play!! While we can disagree, about his best position, he’s def versatile!! I think, he has LeBron level expectations and seems not only cool on the pitch, but off of it also. I hope he plays both matches!?#USMNT

  3. During injury time, McKennie made a great play to get the ball out of danger that drew praise from both commentators. He then passed to Dybala who promptly dribbled the ball out of bounds. The resulting thrown in led to the tying goal.

  4. Looking forwards to the the game on the 12th.
We’ve got a number of players who’ve returned from injury/illness (Adams & McKennie), and a group of young players ready to make a name for themselves…
Reyna, Richards, Ledezma, Musah, Konrad, etc.
This should be fun to see how these guys gel and play together.

    • Upon arrival all players are tested and aren’t allowed to practice until they get their results. The players who had games on Sunday won’t travel until Monday so the first day the entire squad will practice together is Tuesday. That’s a long way to say with so many new faces it might be a little ugly on Thursday after just two days together. Pulisic is supposedly in camp, but might just be as an observer.

      • While the 1st match is the stronger of the 2 opponents, I think the 2nd match will be more telling for this group.
The reason I believe this is that in the 2nd match we’ll see how all these new/young players match up against an opponent that we’re likely to face to Qualify.
So if a backline of Robinson, Richards, TBD, & Cannon…a Midfield of Cardoso, Musah, Lletget, and an attack of Konrad, Llanez & Soto perform well and dominate the game…it signals these young guys are ready to step into the team during Qaulificatiton (Less Mexico & Costa Rica games). They may not be starters during WCQ…but with a little more time to integrate they could help insure our Qualification.
