New York City FC fell behind early at Red Bull Arena against D.C. United, but clawed its way back to pick up three points in the final minutes of the match.

Thiago Andrade’s second MLS goal helped Ronny Deila’s side defeat D.C. United, 2-1, to stay in the top four of the Eastern Conference. Late goals from Keaton Parks and Thiago Andrade canceled out an early opener from Nigel Robertha and subdued D.C. United to a sixth defeat under Hernan Losada.

Atlanta United and the New York Red Bulls played out a scoreless draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday afternoon, staying one point clear of each other in the Eastern Conference standings.

In Saturday MLS action, the Seattle Sounders fought back from a 2-1 deficit to earn a draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps, a result that allowed Sporting Kansas City to pull within two points of the Sounders in the West standings after a 2-1 win against Los Angeles FC.

Daniel Salloi continued his torrid run of form for SKC, scoring his sixth goal in seven matches to help Sporting KC post its fifth win in those seven matches. The loss dropped LAFC to 3-4-3, into eighth place in the West.

The league’s other LA team fared better on Saturday, with Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez scoring two goals to lead the Galaxy to a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in the latest installment of the California Clasico. The Galaxy have won three of four matches heading into the July 4th showdown against Sporting KC.

In the Eastern Conference, FC Cincinnati earned a 2-0 win against struggling Toronto FC in Orlando on Saturday. Allan Cruz and Luciano Acosta delivered the goals to help Cincinnati win its third straight road match (although two of those three game against Canadian teams being forced to play home games in Florida). As for TFC, the loss was the Canadian side’s fifth in a row.

Saturday night’s most dramatic finish came in Nashville, where Abu Danladi scored a stoppage-time equalizer to help Nashville SC salvage a 1-1 draw against CF Montreal.

MLS Week 9 Scoreboard

FC Dallas 2, New England Revolution 1 (Final)

(Ricardo Pepe 11′ 54′) – (Goustavo Bou 33′)

Man of the Match: Ricardo Pepi’s brace gave FC Dallas a much needed win over Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution.

Moment of the Match: Pepi’s game-winner in the 54th minute saw the 18 year-old beat a pair of Revolution defenders before finishing off his run with a shot past Matt Turner.

Match to Forget: Jon Bell’s overcommitted attempt to stop Pepi went completely wrong when the forward sent the ball through his legs and was left unchallenged towards goal.

Austin FC 0, Columbus Crew 0 (Final)

Man of the Match: Brad Stuver had his work cut out for him in his fifth clean sheet of the season, finishing this one with 15 saves.

Moment of the Match: Stuver’s full stretched save on Lucas Zelarayán’s long-range hit was the toughest of the several required in the second half.

Match to Forget: Cecilio Domínguez attempted to lead the way in Austin’s efforts to break the deadlock at Q2 Stadium but his side finished without a goal for the sixth time this year.

NYCFC 2, D.C. United 1 (Final)

(Keaton Parks 84′, Thiago Andrade 95′) – (Nigel Robertha 9′)

Man of the Match: Maxi Moralez. Moralez assisted once and was the live wire to the comeback for NYCFC. The Argentine created the most chances in the match with six and was all over the field for NYCFC in its win.

Moment of the Match: Thiago Andrade’s second MLS goal proved to be the winner at Red Bull Arena as Ronny Deila’s side fought back to earn three points. Andrade came off the bench in the 37th minute and would deliver the key finish after a fast break by NYCFC.

Match to Forget: Donovan Pines. Pines thought he would keep Andrade in his place on the final attack of the match, but overstepped his challenge and eventually watched as Andrade raced on goal and scored the winner. Pines’ error proved to cost D.C. United a chance at one point on the road.

Atlanta United 0, Red Bulls 0 (Final)

Man of the Match: Carlos Coronel was called upon to make two crucial saves in the games final moments, saving the Red Bulls from a fifth defeat on the road.

Moment of the Match: Coronel’s 78th-minute fingertip save denied Atlanta’s best chance of the game through Brooks Lennon.

Match to Forget: Kyle Duncan did well to create dangerous opportunities but wasted chances with his final decisions in the final third.

Timbers 0, Minnesota United 1 (Final)

Sounders 2, Whitecaps 2 (Final)

Man of the Match: Cristian Dajome. Scored one goal, assisted on another, and was excellent throughout.

Moment of the Match: Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland delivered a stellar kick save on the final play of the first half to preserve a 1-0 lead for the hosts.

Match to Forget: Abdoulaye Cissoko. The 21-year-old center back has a bright future and has generally looked excellent in his debut MLS season. But he struggled on Saturday night, and was badly burned on the Whitecaps’ opening goal.

Earthquakes 1, Galaxy 3 (Final)

(Cade Cowell 82′) – (Javier Hernandez 11′, 50′, Florian Jungwirth (own goal) 70′)

Man of the Match: Javier Hernandez’s two-goal performance led the way for the Galaxy, and he earned his two goals with some excellent runs, and also a pass on the buildup to his second goal.

Moment of the Match: The Galaxy’s lightning-fast counter was on full display on their second goal, with Hernandez collecting a pass from Jonathan Dos Santos off an Earthquakes turnover, then raced toward and goal and converted the return pass from Kevin Cabral in the 50th minute.

Match to Forget: Florian Jungwirth may have notched an own-goal, but it was Oswaldo Alanis who was caught out of position on the Galaxy’s first goal, then committed the turnover that sparked the counter leading to their second goal.

Sporting KC 2, LAFC 1 (Final)

(Alan Pulido 61′, Daniel Salloi 87′) – (Kim Moon-Hwan 24′)

Man of the Match: Daniel Salloi continued his red-hot run of form, scoring an 87th-minute winner for Sporting KC. He also drew the foul that led to Tristan Blackmon’s match-turning red card.

Moment of the Match: Salloi’s winning goal in the 87th minute is the easy pick for biggest moment, but the most important moment came in the 47th minute when Tim Melia made a point-blank save to deny a Corey Baird chance that would have made it 2-0 LAFC if Melia hadn’t saved it.

Match to Forget: Tristan Blackmon’s red card completely changed the momentum of the match, and sparked Sporting KC’s comeback victory.

Toronto FC 0,  FC Cincinnati 2 (Final)

Man of the Match: Both teams were visibly tired from the flexed schedule, but you did not see it in Luciano Acosta’s performance. His goal killed the game and he was good for a 90% passing rate in his 90-minute shift.

Moment of the Match: Acosta’s 68th-minute golazo secured Cincinnati’s three points in style.

Match to Forget: There was a sequence of mistakes that lead to Allan Cruz’s opening goal, but Marco Delgado’s was glaring and probably factored into him getting subbed off at halftime. He had a heavy touch in what was supposed to be a build-up, but he left the ball unprotected and Cruz was there to take it away and cash in on a gift.

Fire 3, Union 3 (Final)

(Jakob Glesnes (own goal) 2′, Boris Sekulic 56′, Maricio Pineda 67′) – (Quinn Sullivan 28′, Cory Burke (45+2′), Boris Sekulic (own goal) 79′)

Real Salt Lake 1, Dynamo 1 (Final)

(Justen Glad 11′) – (Maxi Urruti 52′)

Man of the Match: Marko Maric made seven saves, including a stunning stop in the 62nd minute to deny Damir Kreilach from close range.

Moment of the Match: Maxi Urruti’s quick-strike finish in the 52nd minute gave the Dynamo the equalizer.

Match to Forget: Rubio Rubin had a quiet night, managing just one shot on the night in a performance that isn’t likely to have helped his chances of making the USMNT Gold Cup squad.

Man of the Match: Nani scored the winning goal in sensational fashion for Orlando City and also registered an assist on the tying goal by Chris Mueller. The veteran forward has been Orlando’s best player so far this season and will look to continue that trend going forward this summer.

Moment of the Match: Not long after Mueller’s chipped finish tied the match up, Nani delivered a missile into the top corner which proved to be the winning goal.

Match to Forget: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez failed to hold his ground on several occasions in Friday’s loss, losing six of his nine individual battles and picking up a yellow card.
