Reports: Manchester City continues pursuit of Antonee Robinson

Antonee Robinson delivered an impressive first season in the English Premier League and following Fulham’s relegation to the second-tier, the young defender is reportedly linked with a move back to the top-flight.

Defending EPL Champion Manchester City is linked with a transfer for Robinson, multiple outlets stated Monday. There is no word on whether Fulham will listen to offers for Robinson, but the Citizens have kept the defender on their transfer target list.

Robinson earned a move to Craven Cottage in August 2020 following Wigan Athletic’s relegation to League One and impressed for Scott Parker’s side. The 23-year-old left back totaled 28 appearances for the London-based club, finishing with over 2,100 minutes of action in his debut EPL season.

The former Everton defender was linked with a move to AC Milan earlier in 2020, but an irregular heart rhythm ended his chances for a move to Serie A at the time.

Robinson has earned 12 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team to date, appearing in 11 friendlies and a 1-0 victory over Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals.

Manchester City currently has Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko at the left-back position and Robinson’s move to the Etihad Stadium would connect him with international teammate Zack Steffen.

  1. Post-Covid, Man City is probably bargain hunting, knowing smaller teams like Fulham needs to sell to generate cash, and there are probably just a few competitors in the EPL willing to buy. He’s better off at MC than Fulham, but will see his playing time drop.

  2. I’d rather see him move to a mid-table side at this point in his development. He wouldn’t be the first choice at Man City.

  3. Milan wanted him, now Man City wants him. Will Berhalter finally want him? Yes I know he’s been called in, but Berthalter treats him like an after thought.

    • I know right, Lol. Don’t rile me up Gary and get my SUM/MLS conspiracies going again(but are they still conspiracy though?).

First Milan now City yet GB treats him like second or third fiddle. Kid is earning it slowly level by level. Maybe GB should start giving the kid a bit more respect. Lovitz? Remember how hard he tried to hammer that square peg. Wait, wait, let’s move are Barcelona starting RB to LB?

But but I will say so far I am liking what I see on the field and want to put the selection head scratchers behind us. Still if Milan and City are sniffing then they’re seeing something GB has glaringly missed which is right under his nose the whole time.

    • Well I hope Pep can fix him because he is awful in possession. Even against a CR team that didn’t really try he just kicked the ball straight out of bounds or to the defense. He’s got great recovery speed his crossing isn’t bad but his soccer decision making isn’t very good and if he can’t go full speed he struggles for ideas. His defensive abilities are fairly lacking as well but like Yedlin his recovery speed makes up for it mostly. He’d have been a lock for the US in 2008 not sure he fits now. I think it’s probably more Pulisic hates playing with him than Gregg doesn’t rate him. He can’t combine with Christian at all! Now is he a better option than Ream, for sure 100%. This seems like a ploy by MC to bring the price down on someone they really want. His profile does not fit what Pep wants to do at all.

      • Maybe you should watch him play in the EPL. I would give that more weight than an occasional international friendly when he has hardly gotten to know his teammates.

    • That’s pretty well said. I didn’t know Johnny hated Robinson so much or maybe he is just shilling for Berkhalter again.

    • I could argue this one both ways. He’s bound to get some playing time since City will be participating in four competitions, and he will be surrounded by the best and forced to get better. The Championship schedule can be brutal, but on the downside, probably fewer minutes.
