  1. As usual I agree with most everything Ives says. Couple of things I thought I would add. Regarding wingers, My recollection is that Arriola made the squad, plus Zardes played a lot of wing, mostly on the left. Arriola usually plays right wing, problem solved. Additionally, Lletget played left wing his first couple of seasons with the Galaxy. Regarding Roldan, I have been of the opinion in the past that Roldan was good enough for all the teams in CONCACAF except for Mexico and Costa Rica. I don’t think Costa Rica is as good as it used to be while I think Roldan has improved. IMHO, Roldan will only be out of his depth if and when he plays v s. Mexico.

  2. Ives, I thought you had Peruvian roots. What is going on with your pronunciation of Araujo? It sounds like you’re saying Aruaju!

    • That surname has puzzled me for a while, since there are apparently some players (can’t remember from where) whose families pronounce it with a different accent: Araújo as opposed to Araujo. I too would be curious if Ives or anyone could shed further light.

In any case, best wishes to Julian, or Julián. I can understand why he might not be ready to decide quite yet. Probably the best thing that the USMNT could do to convince him would just be to win more games and keep looking like a team with a bright future, as well as one with a good sense of community and team spirit, a team that it’s fun and challenging to play with.

I don’t see them winning this tournament, which seems to be a deliberate sacrifice to keep the A team healthy for September and October, though of course I hope the B-C team will prove me wrong. But those fall WCQ games could be decisive, in more ways than one.
