A pair of U.S. men’s national team midfielders delivered solid shifts this weekend with hopes of being in Gregg Berhalter’s starting lineup for Thursday’s World Cup Qualifier vs. Jamaica.
Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah both started for their respective European clubs in the final matches before heading into international duty with the USMNT. Adams played 90 minutes for RB Leipzig in a 3-0 league win over Bochum on Saturday while Musah started and played 85 minutes as Valencia earned a 0-0 draw on the road at Cadiz.
Both players have struggled with injuries during the early stages of the new European season, but look to be heading into USMNT camp with confidence after earning minutes at club level. Adams helped RB Leipzig earn only a third clean sheet of the Bundesliga season and now heads into a busy period in World Cup Qualifying.
Musah made only his third start of the La Liga campaign, but delivered a hardworking performance as Valencia moves one point back of the top-six.
Elsewhere, Gianluca Busio and Joe Scally registered their first European goals while Ian Harkes added an assist in a 1-0 Premiership win for Dundee United. Tim Weah came off the bench to set up Jonathan David for an insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Marseille. Alan Sonora chipped into assists for Independiente in a 3-3 league draw in Argentina. Timmy Chandler started for Eintracht Frankfurt in a shocking 2-1 road victory over Bayern Munich.

Sargent played 90 in what I think is his first EPL action for Norwich. I didn’t see his name mentioned in any reviews. Is he another non-scoring forward for the US and his club? Not saying he doesn’t have positive attributes; he clearly does. And not saying anyone else on Norwich can score either. Hopefully he gets some good experience and doesn’t get the same treatment Jozy did based on his stay for a very poor Sunderland team.
It was his six EPL appearance and 3rd straight start.

Has Hoppe played at all for Mallorca? Watched the last 2 games and he was a unused sub in both…
He played in two previous games. In one he was a sub, in another, against Real, he started, but was subbed in the second half.
An Eric Palmer Brown sighting. Going from Austria to France he has stepped up in class and may provide another option in the future.
Fascinating that McKennie is back starting for Juve. He seems to have more than a little Clint Dempsey in him…Dempsey, too, had some ‘tude and new managers always initially didn’t rate him, parked him, and then reluctantly put him back in as circumstances forced their hand…and then discovered they couldn’t live without him. McKennie seems to be following a similar path with Juve.
Yes and no. My read at the moment is that he is getting time due to injury, but is also playing poorly when he gets his time. Missing chances and passes. Dempsey always shone when the manager’s hand was forced. McKinnie just skied a glorious chance and got rated with a 5 by everyone.
Hopefully the break will bring back his confidence.
I think we need to be cautious what we read about McKennie’s performance for Juve. It is clear that the current manager does not want him and doesn’t rate his skills. He could be correct in some aspects, but there is no doubt that McKennie is not appreciated at this time by Juve.
Any update on Richie Ledezma?
He posted a training video in early August and another in early September so hopefully we’ll get another soon. He was still just doing individual work last time he shared.
