Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Ream, Sargent, and more

Tim Ream has been a rock in Fulham’s backline during the English Football League Championship season, but Saturday saw the veteran centerback contribute on the offensive side of the field at Craven Cottage.

Ream scored his first goal in close to four years as Marco Silva’s side remained top of the league standings following a 1-1 draw with Preston North End. The Missouri native opened the scoring at Preston in the 15th minute, getting on the end of Jean Michael Seri’s set piece and flicking on a left-footed shot into the center of the goal. It was Ream’s first goal for the club since December 2017 against Cardiff City.

The 34-year-old also made four clearances and won four of his six individual duels on the afternoon, continuing to be a regular contributor in Fulham’s defensive unit. Preston snatched one point after a 72nd minute equalizer, but Fulham extended its unbeaten run to nine matches heading into a December 3 top-of-the-table showdown with AFC Bournemouth.

Elsewhere, Josh Sargent continued to start for Norwich City while Gianluca Busio played 90 minutes in a loss to Inter Milan. Luca De La Torre remained in the Heracles starting lineup, continuing to rack up the minutes in the Netherlands. Cameron Carter-Vickers helped Celtic get the better of Aberdeen in a 2-1 Premiership victory in Glasgow.

Sebastian Saucedo and Pumas advanced in the Liga MX playoffs after a dominant second leg triumph over Club America. Ulysses Llanez scored his third goal of the Austrian 2. Liga season, helping St. Poelten to an important road win. Lynden Gooch delivered a Man of the Match showing for Sunderland, playing as a right wing back.

Comments

  1. While watching the 2nd half of the Norwich game, Sargent spent more time defending in/near his own penalty area than getting near the opposition’s.
