Kyle Duncan signs with Belgian side KV Oostende

Kyle Duncan will officially become the fifth American player in the Belgian Pro League this winter.

Duncan has signed with Belgian side KV Oostende, securing a four-year contract in a deal the club announced on Thursday. Duncan will officially join the club in December once his Red Bulls contract expires, but cannot play for his new team until the January Transfer Window opens.

“Kyle is a player who has been on our radar for a long time,” Oostende club president Gauthier Ganaye said in a statement. “Because the season in the U.S. is now over and his contract has ended there, we can sign him for free, despite the tough competition from several European clubs. Because he grew up with Red Bulls style of play, he fits perfectly into our system, he is a modern right back who combines speed with good crosses.”

“Because the season in the U.S. has only just come to an end, he is physically very sharp and will be ready for use immediately,” Ganaye said. “So I’m really happy that we were able to close this deal so early. We want to come out of the winter break strengthened and we still have a lot of time to work diligently and make sure we bring extra quality to the positions we need.”

Duncan was linked to Oostende earlier this fall and reportedly had interest elsewhere in Europe. The 24-year-old turned himself into a top talent with the Red Bulls during his time at the club, totaling 74 MLS appearances and contributing five goals and 10 assists.

The New York native registered 33 combined league appearances for the Red Bulls in 2021, logging over 2,600 minutes of play and helping the club clinch an MLS Cup Playoffs berth. Duncan played 120 minutes for Gerhard Struber’s side last weekend in a 1-0 extra time defeat to the Philadelphia Union.

He will join Mark McKenzie, Sam Vines, and Chris Durkin as the latest American player to move abroad to Belgium from MLS.

Oostende sits in 13th place in the Pro League standings, with 17 points earned through 15 matches played.
