Gianluca Busio jumped back into Venezia’s starting lineup on Saturday and helped the promotion side claim an important point against one of Serie A’s top clubs.
Busio played 90 minutes for Paolo Zanetti’s side in a 1-1 draw with Juventus at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder was all over the field for Venezia, winning the most tackles (3), completing 82% of his passes, and winning eight of his three individual duels in the match. The 19-year-old has been in-and-out of the starting lineup over recent weeks, but did not disappoint as Venezia moved six points clear of the bottom three in Italy’s top flight. Venezia next hosts Ternana in Coppa Italia play before also facing off with Sampdoria and Lazio ahead of the winter break.
Chris Richards delivered his first Bundesliga goal on Saturday as Hoffenheim edged rivals Freiburg 2-1 away from home. Richards’ header in the 94th minute helped Hoffenheim jump into the top-four in the Bundesliga table, as the USMNT defender continued to start for the club. Richards has been a key part of the club’s recent four-match winning streak and will hope to remain the starting lineup for the final matches of 2021.
Brenden Aaronson assisted once on Saturday as Red Bull Salzburg rolled past WSG Tirol 5-0 in Austrian Bundesliga play. Aaronson set up Karim Adeyemi for the fourth goal of the match, eventually playing the full 90 minutes in Matthias Jaissle’s midfield. Aaronson created the most chances in the match (7) and also won four of his nine individual battles, helping Salzburg move 14 points clear in the race for the league title.
Cameron Carter-Vickers continued to shine with Scottish Premiership side Celtic, helping the hosts edge Motherwell 1-0 in Glasgow. Carter-Vickers won 13 of his 17 duels in defense while also making three interceptions and winning 11 of his 13 aerial battles. The Tottenham loanee has been one of the top players for Ange Postecoglou’s squad this season and will have his first chance at silverware next weekend against Hibernian in the League Cup Final at Hampden Park.
