Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Adams faces Brooks, and more

Tyler Adams and John Brooks have both hit a groove in recent weeks in Germany and now the U.S. men’s national team duo will square off in what both will hope is an important victory for their respective clubs.

RB Leipzig takes on Wolfsburg on Sunday in what normally is a clash at the top of the league table, however both clubs are seeking consistency to end the month. Adams is coming off an impressive outing midweek in DFB Pokal action, where he helped RB Leipzig advance to the quarterfinals past Hansa Rostock. The USMNT midfielder has totaled 90 minutes in each of his three starts in 2022 and will be looking to extend that streak this weekend.

Brooks and Wolfsburg are slipping at the moment, currently sitting in 14th place in the league table. The German club is looking to snap a 10-match winless run in all competitions and claim a first victory since early November. The veteran centerback has impressed in his first two starts of the new year and will be pushing to shine this weekend ahead of the USMNT’s upcoming World Cup Qualifying schedule in late January.

In England, Christian Pulisic and Chelsea host Tottenham in a London Derby while Josh Sargent and Norwich City visit Watford in an important match in the bottom half of the league standings. Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream and Fulham will look to extend their winning run to four league matches.

In Germany, Ricardo Pepi and Augsburg face a tough test at Bayer Leverkusen. Chris Richards and Hoffenheim take on Borussia Dortmund.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Juventus take on rivals AC Milan away from home. Gianluca Busio and Venezia face off with Inter Milan in what will be a stern test for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Reggie Cannon and Boavista visit Pacos de Ferreira while Sam Vines and Kyle Duncan go head-to-head in Belgium league play. James Sands and Cameron Carter-Vickers headline the American contingent in Scottish Cup action this weekend.
