Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Steffen faces Ream in FA Cup, and more

Zack Steffen was unable to feature for the U.S. men’s national team during the latest window of World Cup Qualifying, but will be pushing to start for Manchester City in FA Cup play this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side faces off with Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, looking to advance into the Round of 16 with a home victory. Steffen did not travel for international duty due to a back injury, but should be pushing to start after returning to training on Wednesday.

Tim Ream will oppose Steffen in Manchester on Saturday, with both defenders looking to keep the rampant City attack quiet. Ream remains a stalwart in Marco Silva’s backline helping the club to top of the Championship table so far. Antonee Robinson isn’t expected to dress after starting all three qualifiers for the USMNT over the past week. Fulham has failed to defeat the Citizens in each of its past 11 meetings across all competitions, but will be full of confidence after winning five of its last six matches overall.

In England, Christian Pulisic and Chelsea host Plymouth Argyle while Josh Sargent and Norwich City visits Wolves. Ethan Horvath will hope to be in net for Nottingham Forest against Leicester City.

In Germany, George Bello will look to make his Bundesliga debut as Arminia Bielefeld faces Borussia Moenchengladbach. Tyler Adams and RB Leipzig take on Bayern Munich with the USMNT midfielder aiming to be fit for the contest.

In Spain, Sergino Dest and Barcelona host Atletico Madrid in the showdown of the weekend in La Liga. Yunus Musah and Matt Miazga will also hope to be in their respective lineups.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Juventus resume play at home against Hellas Verona.

Elsewhere, Brenden Aaronson and Red Bull Salzburg host LASK with the winner advancing to the Austrian Cup Final. Jordan Pefok and Young Boys continue league action while both Joel and Alan Sonora kick off their return to competitive action in the Copa Argentina.
