Yunus Musah has continued to play a consistent role for La Liga club Valencia this season and will now have his first crack at bringing home a trophy later this Spring.
Musah helped Valencia reach April’s Copa Del Rey Final, playing the final 19 minutes of Wednesday’s 1-0 second leg semifinal vctory over Athletic Bilbao. Valencia advanced to the final of the competition by a 2-1 aggregate scoreline, aiming to win the tournament for the ninth-time in club history.
Valencia only needed one goal at Mestalla on Wednesday to take a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Goncalo Guedes’ unleashed a missile into the top-right conrer in the 43rd minute, breaking the deadlock and padding Valencia’s advantage.
Musah subbed on in the 71st minute and helped close out the victory in front of the home supporters. The 19-year-old completed all six of his passes and also made three recoveries, helping Valencia keep Athletic Bilbao from scoring an equalizer.
Valencia will face either Real Betis or Rayo Vallecano in April’s final, aiming to bring home a first domestic trophy since 2018-19. Should the Spanish club lift the trophy, it would clinch a berth in the Spanish Super Cup and the 2022-23 UEFA Europa League with a victory, and Musah would become the second USMNT player all-time to win the trophy.
Valencia resumes league play on Saturday against Granada, sitting 11 points back of the final European qualification spot.
