Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Palmer-Brown, Adams, and more

Ligue 1 side Troyes grinded out a 1-1 draw on Sunday against Strasbourg with U.S. men’s national team defender Erik Palmer-Brown logging his latest impressive performance in defense.

Palmer-Brown continued to start in Troyes’ starting lineup, delivering an all-around strong day in front of the home supporters. The 24-year-old won five of his nine duels, made seven clearances, two interceptions, and won both of his tackle attempts as he earned his 15th Ligue 1 appearance of the season. Palmer-Brown has stayed busy throughout 2022 and will continue to try and help Troyes move further away from the relegation picture in France’s top-flight.

Troyes sits four points clear of the bottom three with six matches remaining.

In England, Zack Steffen started for Manchester City, but the American had a forgettable day in a 3-2 FA Cup semifinal loss to Liverpool. Christian Pulisic did not feature for Chelsea, who advanced to the FA Cup Finals past Crystal Palace.

In Germany, Tyler Adams started in a 1-0 win for RB Leipzig while John Brooks and Wolfsburg were hammered by Borussia Dortmund. George Bello came off the bench and featured against Bayern Munich.

In Scotland, Cameron Carter-Vickers logged 120 minutes on Sunday, but Celtic was eliminated in the Scottish Cup semifinals by rivals Rangers. Chris Mueller and Hibernian also suffered a semifinal round exit.

Elsewhere, Jordan Pefok scored his 24th goal of the season across all competitions for Young Boys. Reggie Cannon logged 90 minutes in a 4-0 Portuguese league loss for Boavista while Joe Corona was sent off in Sundsvall’s league defeat in Sweden.

  1. Wright, Ebobissie, Ferreira, and Vasquez should be called in for the June window. I would like to see Pepi with the U20’s.

  2. Wright should be getting more pub from American journalists and the American soccer community. Berhalter is hopefully in contact with him. Looks likely Wright will finish the season somewhere at 15 goals. By the way Ghana has been pushing hard to convince Wright to switch National teams. I want to see Wright in June. Also might be time to move Pepi back to the U20’s for this summer tournament seeing how the U20’s need a striker.

  3. That is 10 goals for Haji Wright in the Turkish league with a few games left to play. Is that enough to earn a USMNT call up for our weakest position? He played for the youth teams with Pulisic et Al so should have a little chemistry already. He and Ebibosse might be worth a look in June.

    • You would think so, but Pefok has 24 goals in all competitions and rarely sees the field for the US. Berhalter seems to prefer younger players even if they aren’t scoring..

    • Pepi 1g every 233 mins
      Pefok 1g every 307 mins
Ferreira 1g every 143 mins (although facing out of form TnT skews his numbers)
      Sargent 1g every 222 mins
      Zardes 1g every 291 mins

      • If Ferreria’s numbers are skewed because he scored vs a weak and out of form TNT side then all these numbers are skewed and more or less worthless.

None of these guys faced a defense worthy of the name while playing for the USMNT.
