Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Musah, Pulisic, and more

Valencia’s hopes for European qualification may have come to an end, but Yunus Musah and his teammates will be pushing to end the La Liga season in the top 10 with a victory on Saturday.

Musah and Valencia host Celta Vigo in their domestic finale this weekend, knowing a win on home soil paired with an Osasuna defeat would help them finish in the top half of the league table. Valencia is winless in nine consecutive matches coming into Matchday 38 and will look to give the home fans something to cheer about before a busy summer.

Musah, 19, has made 28 league appearances this season, scoring one goal and also contributing two goals in Valencia’s Copa Del Rey run to the final. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder will be focused on ending his second La Liga season in style before resuming international duty with the USMNT this June.

In England, Christian Pulisic and Chelsea face off with Watford in their Premier League finale. Jesse Marsch and Leeds United face a trip to Brentford on the final day needing at least three points to truly avoid relegation. Lynden Gooch and Sunderland take on Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley on Saturday for a chance at promotion to the EFL Championship.

In Italy, Gianluca Busio and Tanner Tessmann will push for appearances in their final Serie A match of the season.

In France, Tim Weah and Erik Palmer-Brown headline the American contingent in Ligue 1 action. Weah is coming off his first league goal for Lille this season while Palmer-Brown earned Troyes’ Player of the Month award for April.

In the Netherlands, Luca De La Torre and Heracles need a major turnaround against Excelsior to avoid relegation to the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

Elsewhere, Brenden Aaronson and Red Bull Salzburg aim for three points in their Austrian Bundesliga finale while Christian Cappis and Emmanuel Sabbi both take part in Danish Superliagen play. Mark McKenzie and Sam Vines have final league matches in the Belgian playoffs.
