Ferreira is a lock, sorry, but he just is! The offense just seems to be more fluid with him in there, and he creates space for others in and around the box with his constant movement off the ball. If he can be sharper with his finishing at this level, which I think will come as he plays more, our offensive production can reach another level and that would be scary for a lot of teams in Qatar!
I think if he continues to score regular goals in MLS yes. If he goes on a cold streak and doesn’t perform in Sept I could still see him left off, if say Sargent or Dike step up.
And deservedly so imo. He has had some great performances, including against Mexico. Also has been the best at delivering set pieces over the last couple years. Striker and centerback are fluid, otherwise only injuries should change the rest of the roster.
jb – I agree with you but have a feeling we are probably in the minority for people who post on this site.
Acosta is a lock because:
1. There is a perception that he is the only adequate backup for Tyler. He is an adequate backup but there are formational changes that could also make up for the loss of Adams.
2. He, DeAndre and Weston are the only real “hard men” on the team. Without them this team is soft as butter.
3. A few years ago Kellyn was an excellent dead ball guy. Now he’s just adequate, which is better than the drek that everyone else on the team is serving up on set pieces. Maybe Gio can do better but right now Kellyn is the man.
Kellyn is underwhelming but adequate. Right now he’s better than that guy from the Quakes so he stays.
OOOHHHH SSNNNAAPPPP!!!!! This is going to be tough for GB!!!!!! Some key players might get hurt….while opportunities might present themselves for players to make the team. Here is what I think:
–
Goalkeepers
Locks: Zack Steffen, Matt Turner
Battling for a spot: Sean Johnson, Ethan Horvath,
Long shot: Gabriel Slonina
–
Fullbacks
Locks: Sergiño Dest, Antonee Robinson, DeAndre Yedlin,
Battling for a spot: Reggie Cannon, Joe Scally, George Bello
–
Center backs
Locks: Walker Zimmerman, Chris Richards, Aaron Long, Cameron Carter-Vickers (because no Miles Robinson)
Battling for a spot: John Brooks, Erik Palmer-Brown
Long shot: James Sands
–
Central midfielders
Locks: Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Luca de la Torre,
Still battling for a spot: Kellyn Acosta, Cristian Roldan, Gianluca Busio
Long shot: Malik Tillman, Djordje Mihailovic
–
Attacking midfielders/Wingers
Locks: Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah, Gio Reyna, Brenden Aaronson
Battling for a spot: Paul Arriola, Jordan Morris,
–
Strikers
Locks: Jesus Ferreira
Battling for a spot: Ricardo Pepi, Haji Wright, Jordan Pefok
Long shot: Josh Sargent, Brandon Vazquez
You’re probably pretty close here. But I would switch Busio and Mihailovic. Mihailovic would have been in camp if not for an injury, seems to have a better chance than Busio.
Bizzy – I agree with almost all except:
Johnson lock, Steffen not
Acosta lock (versatility and set pieces)
Ferriera not a lock.
I think ultimately, Brooks will be on the final roster. High press was a disaster against Uruguay so I don’t expect we will see it which makes him a much more viable option and he is good in a back 3. We saw a lot of different tactics in June and IMO for the better.

One of you better takes ever bizzy. Not much I’d disagree with. I would say Shaq Moore remains in the picture at fullback.

Acosta is a lock. Get used to it.

A lot going to depend on where Busio ends up this fall and his role is there.
I don’t think there are any locks at striker right now. I would add Dike to that list as well.
