Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Ramirez, Cappis, and more

Christian Ramirez played a key role for Scottish club Aberdeen last season and the American striker is delivering a strong start to the early stages of his campaign this summer.

Ramirez scored once on Wednesday in Aberdeen’s 5-0 Scottish League Cup win over Stirling Albion, continuing his impressive start at the top of Jim Goodwin’s attack. It was a busy start for Aberdeen against the third-division club, netting all five of its goals in the first half. Ramirez doubled the visitors advantage in the 24th minute, capping off a cross from Jonny Hayes to give the American striker his third goal of the season.

Ramirez was substituted off at halftime, but Aberdeen would have zero blemishes, hanging on for a comfortable road victory. Aberdeen will host Raith Rovers on Sunday before traveling to defending Premiership champions Celtic in its league opener on July 31.

In Europe, Christian Cappis started for Brondby in a 1-1 Europa Conference League qualifying draw while Henry Wingo played 90 minutes in a 2-1 first leg loss in Champions League qualifying.

In Argentina, Alan and Joel Sonora both featured in Primeira Liga action.
