Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Vines, Boyd, and more

Royal Antwerp kicked off its Belgian Pro League schedule on Sunday with three points and American defender Sam Vines was among the top performers.

Vines logged 90 minutes at left back as Royal Antwerp defeated Mechelen 2-0 away from home, giving the former Colorado Rapids man his first appearance of the new season. The 23-year-old won three duels, made two interceptions, and made two clearances, helping Mark Van Bommel’s side pick up a clean sheet in its league opener. Vines’ return to action for Royal Antwerp will be a major boost ahead of this week’s second leg tie against Drita in Europa Conference League Qualifying.

In Germany, Terrence Boyd scored once in Kaiserslautern’s 2-2 draw in 2. Bundesliga action while Timothy Tillman and Julian Green both featured in Greuther Furth’s loss

In Scotland, Christian Ramirez and Dante Polvara helped Aberdeen remain unbeaten to start its competitive schedule.

In Argentina, Alan Sonora played off the bench for Independiente, but was unable to help the Argentinian club avoid a home loss.
