Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Scally, Dest, and more

Joe Scally’s strong start to the German Bundesliga season helped him earn an international call up this month to the U.S. men’s national team, but Borussia Moenchengladbach will hope Scally can help lead the club past RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Scally has started all six of Gladbach’s league matches this season, going the distance in four of those six outings. The USMNT defender has continued to show off his versatility in Daniel Farke’s squad, featuring mainly as a right back in Gladbach’s 4-2-3-1 set up. Scally has totaled 40 appearances for Gladbach in all competitions since becoming a first-team regular season, being used on both sides of the backline. Only one point separates Gladbach and RB Leipzig in the top ten of the Bundesliga table, and both teams will be pushing for a strong ending to their September schedules before the two-week international break.

In Italy, Sergino Dest and AC Milan face Napoli while Weston McKennie and Juventus take on Monza.

In England, Tim Ream and Fulham visit Nottingham Forest on Friday while Antonee Robinson’s status remains unknown. Josh Sargent and Norwich City host West Bromwich Albion while Auston Trusty and Birmingham City host Coventry City.

In France, Erik Palmer-Brown and Troyes face off with Clermont Foot.

Elsewhere, Yunus Musah and Valencia welcome Celta Vigo to town. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Malik Tillman headline the American contingent in Scotland. Sam Vines and Royal Antwerp host RFC Seraing with the American left back aiming to keep his spot in the starting lineup.
