Timothy Weah gained some much needed confidence in his second appearance back with Ligue 1 side Lille.
Weah registered two assists off the bench in a 3-0 victory against Strasbourg, earning SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors in the process.
The 22-year-old connected with Jonathan David and Remy Cabella in the second half of Lille’s shutout victory, delivering a strong pair of crosses into the box for one-time finishes.
Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from the past week:
Josh Sargent
Sargent’s impressive first half of the English Football League Championship season continued on Saturday with the American registering his eighth league goal of the season.
Sargent scored Norwich City’s lone goal in a 2-1 road defeat at Watford, once again making an impact in Dean Smith’s starting lineup. It was the eighth match out of the past 11 overall that Sargent has either scored or assisted for Norwich City.
Sargent is an early candidate for Norwich City’s Player of the Year, helping the club to a current third place spot. His impressive run of form should also keep him in consideration to be included in Gregg Berhalter’s final U.S. men’s national team roster.
Norwich City’s busy schedule continues with Tuesday’s league showdown vs. Luton Town.
Haji Wright
Haji Wright returned to goalscoring ways on Friday, scoring twice in a 3-2 road loss to Alanyaspor.
It was Wright’s first goal-scoring performance since Aug. 26, giving him seven goals in nine league appearances this season. Wright scored in the 57th and 87th minutes of the match, delivering a pair of finishes in the box.
Malik Tillman
Malik Tillman has been in-and-out of the Rangers squad in recent weeks, but Sunday’s goalscoring performance at Motherwell will only help his chances of remaining a starter in Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s lineup.
Tillman delivered his first goal since August as Rangers knocked off Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park. His impressive solo run past several Motherwell defenders paired with a confident finish into the bottom-left corner helped Rangers take a lead.
Tillman finished with 90 minutes under his belt ahead of a League Cup quarterfinal showdown with Dundee FC.
Josh Cohen
Josh Cohen’s reign as Maccabi Haifa’s No. 1 goalkeeper continued last week with the American shot-stopper helping the Israeli side knock off Serie A giants Juventus.
Cohen delivered a five-save clean sheet as Maccabi Haifa defeated Juventus 2-0 on home soil. It was Cohen’s third shutout in 10 Champions League appearances during this season’s competition.
Cohen has made 16 combined appearances for Maccabi Haifa in all competitions, helping the club stay alive in the race for a UCL knockout stage spot. Maccabi Haifa will need Cohen to deliver another strong outing at Paris Saint-Germain on Oct. 25. to keep their dreams of reaching the Round of 16 alive.
